Smile Gauges...necessary vs. optional

Here are some good questions.

What gauges do you run?

What is the most important gauge?

List the gauges by importance...

thanks for any info guys, I'm quite new to getting gauges, and want to make sure i am safe, and run what i need to, etc.

Boost, Trans Temp, EGT. EGT is most important, followed by Trans Temp. Boost is nice to have & a great driving indicator, but not required.

Carwash,

PYRO, trans temp, boost in that order. Make sure you install the probe PRE turbo too or you're wasting your hard earned dollars. Call us if you want we have been selling diesel gauges since the early 1990's, we'll be glad to help you with questions etc.

im constantly towing heavy and constantly watching all 3 gauges. I know what temps and psi's are normal and if something is too high to low etc.. i know something is wrong. IMO all 3 gauges are needed to determine how hard your engine is working and how cool its staying.

Thanks for the info...appreciate it. Is it better if i get real gauges, or rely on the gauges that a plug and play edge type thing have?

I would like to have the gauges before i do any mods at all, so i guess that answers my question. Is an a-pillar best?

I would rank them the same as MarkDPP, except that I have a manual tranny so the trans temp gauge is less critical. The boost gauge is a useful troubleshooting tool, and it will get the most attention from passengers in your vehicle...they'll all want to know if you can peg it.

I prefer an old school dial gauge....easier to read on the fly. I also think the A-pillar is the most readable loaction.

I think that they are option alif you are going to leave your truck stock and not pull much of a trailer. if you pull any thing and have an auto trany a trany temp is a must but so is a pyro.. boost is nice but not as critical. my trany temp has saved me mutiple times!!
