Guys, my truck is down and dont know what's wrong.
It has been running great all winter, took it to the carwash
today and it died on the way home...stuck in a parking lot now
waiting for tow truck...sigh
I have good spark, getting fuel but yhe carb, Edelbrock 1406, will backfire ocassionally and it wont start
any ideas?
any recommendations for a mechanic in my area, Fedway or Tacoma?
What year and what engine?
Is it the Bronco in the signature?

Yes, had to tow it home.
Yes, same truck listed. 1979 400/C6.
I think that the timing chain has skipped a tooth..been through everything else I could think of..it all checks out. It wants to start but won't, sometimes get a backfire through the carb.
It's been so long. One other thing to check is the
distributor to see if it jumped. I would look there
before the timing chain. Just take the cap off and
double check that the rotor is pointing at #1 when
your at TDC. I think there is a slot on the rim under
the cap. Also make sure you at TDC on the compression
stroke. If you don't know what I am talking about let me
know and I can explain it. I don't assume that everyone
knows that.
