Water temp data
I need to do a quick test on whether my water temp gauge is correct or not.
I don't want to spend $20+ on a separate water temp gauge I probably would not use in the long run.
If I can get data on temp versus resistance I can just hook up the ohmmeter and check what's going on as I drive. I have an ohmmeter and the water temp sender is new. But I have no data on the sender.
Anybody know the resistance versus temp for that sender? What's the "NORMAL" range for a 302 in terms of temp numbers?
The resistance info I don't have, but I use a cheap, fast-acting probe type thermometer (like a meat thermometer...I have one that has a range of 0º - 220º F) that can be found at most places that sell kitchen wares. I put it right in the radiator water neck for an accurate temp reading. If you want to avoid opening the radiator when it's hot, warm up the engine with the radiator cap loose so it can't build up pressure.
