I just got a 1977 F-150. When in park or neutral it idles fine. But when it is in gear stopped at a light or stop sign it idles rough and vibrates he hood badly.
Any suggestions? It has a 302 engine with 118k miles. I stole it for $370.00
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Jun-02 AT 01:01 AM (EST)]I have the same engine type, same problem. I've checked out everything with the exception of the fuel pump. That will be my weekend project.

Let me knowif the fuel pump solves the problem.
Thanks.
Double check all of your vacuum lines, especially your hose to your power booster. I had a similar problem, I replaced the hose, the check valve, and put hose clamps on both ends of the hose and the problem subsided greatly.

I had the same problem. I agree with the vacuum diagnosis. I took off my EGR valve and blocked it off. Problem solved. It wasn't hooked up right anyway. I hooked it all back up right for my smog test and it idles just fine. I had to make new gaskets for my EGR plate and carb. It might be a good idea to check these too. Good luck.
That's another thing, I need to make sure all the vacuum lines are connected correctly. Problem is, I don't have a diagram to follow. Does anyone know if I could find one on-line? I would greatly appreciate the info!!!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Jun-02 AT 09:45 PM (EST)]Well, it wasn't the fuel pump. I tested it, and it had good flow. But Dennis (mil1ion) did e-mail me a diagram for the vacuum lines on my 302. BINGO, I had a vacuum line going from the EGR to the manifold vacuum tee. It should of went from the EGR to the VCV. BIG DIFFERENCE in performance! After changing the line around, all I had to do was adjust the idle speed. Thanks a million for the assist Dennis! Believe it guys, one little vacuum line can ruin your day!
