Eliminate CDR?

I'm in the process of installing my turbo from the E350 into my F250. After bolting up the pedestal, I'm seeing there isn't any room for the turbo oil drain to fit. Does the CDR get removed and blocked, then a hole made in the drivers side valve cover for the air intake hose to be installed?

Thanks, Mike

the cdr and the tubes relating to it get removed....
the turbo pedestal uses the same bolts the cdr once used.
Make sure to remove all of the rubber grommets that the cdr used in the valley pan, and add a few more holes through the hole.
The turbo should have a new grommet for the pedestal/drain.

the cdr gets bolted to the ats intake on the driver side. There should be a hose that fits into the (1 1/4inch) hole you drilled in the valve cover (it obviously needs to be taken off for the drilling/cleaning).
Ats provides a rubber hose that has a flaired end which fits in the hole and connects to the bottom of the cdr.

this shoulda all been mentioned in the install manual tho. Did I misunderstand your question?

Drew, this was a used turbo, got no directions and such.
I do follow your instruction, though, thanks.
You'll probably hear from me quite a bit asking q's, I'm only able to get a few hours at a time to work on it. Self employed, have to work 7 days a week!

self employed myself....

I had mentioned in the last thread, that ATS is willing to mail you directions for free.

They even have a mini version on thier webpage. which can be viewed at
http://www.atsdiesel.com/PDF/6.9-7.3-088-Ford-Turbo-System-Layout-sm-A4.pdf

invaluable for the parts list alone. Their steps on how to do things, I re-arranged to my convienance, but still, it gives a good overview.
Missing a step and ruining a turbo certainly makes for wasted time.
Plus there are many parts that you will absolutely need, and as I said in the previous thread, the gasket kit is like $14.... well worth it to replace all the gaskets on a used turbo, as they are probably dry/cracked.
No use installing a turbo, if it leaks air/oil. Plus its alot easier to get it right before installing than it is to hunt down an oil leak after it's all assembled.

If I was you, at this point, before going any further.....
1. I would look at the link I provided, double check to make sure you have all the parts, especially seals/orings/gaskets/grommets. (easier to get a gasket kit, than to order them by part number) Bolts can be substituted.

2. Call ats, and order all the parts you need by the part numbers given in the previously listed link.... Also ask them to mail you the instructions, give them a credit card number and they'll send it out asap. Let them know you have the ATS first gen, non-wastegated turbo for the 7.3liter Ford (I assume thats what you have). They should know what you mean.

3. You're instructions/parts should be at your place by the weekend. Spend the rest of your time cleaning the turbo and all related parts. I would especially clean out the turbo feed line that goes from the engine to the top of the turbo, it needs to be clean and especially not leak.

4. In the meantime......
Pm me your email
and I will email you the instructions, so you can read them over, get a good idea of the procedures. This waiting time would also be a good time, that if you don't understand any particular procedure to ask me or the forums, and I'd be willing to email you a picture of how something is hooked up on my engine.

shame you don't live in south GA, I'd just drop by :-)

good luck,
Drew
