What would happen if i was to remove my cdr? Im wanting to put on a different intake manifold from idi performance. Also how do i relocate it and what would be the negative feedback on a cdr relocation
Not to hijack the thread but I was hooking up my turboed valve cover cdr to my new intake and noticed mine seem to smoke out of it alot also. Is that normal on a diesel?
Smoke from the CDR is normal. The whole point of having it is so the oil is routed either back into the crank case, or through the intake where it is burned in the combustion chamber along with your fuel. As long as it is introduced back into your intake past the air filter it is not harmful, and I would even venture to guess...helpful to your engine in the form of added lubrication. Some people choose to install a road draft tube and delete the CDR all together but your truck will smoke like a wet pile of leaves on fire at a red light! Not to mention, it will leave oil piddle everywhere you park! Did I mention I HATE LEAKS!
My intake is black on the bottom with oil, i read to blow on either end of the CDR and if there is no resistance to your breath then your cdr needs to be replaced. i'm guessing mine has never been replaced so could use it either way. What are the side effects of a bad CDR?
CDR just removes the Oil vapor from the crankcase ventilation... I dont run a CDR on mine, but I do have to occaisionally clean my IC out, which isnt a big deal (Every oil change or so), just a couple of bolts and boots... My blowby is so bad that anything in the path of the vent tube just makes my leaks worse, and Id rather have oil in my IC than on my driveway. I have an adaptor similar to Dirty's but I just welded a 1" black iron elbow to the timing gear access, and threaded a copper nipple into it, cost me like $10... Then I have a 1" hose that goes after the filter, before the turbo... Adding a CDR into the mix just makes things better, provided you can get away with the interuption in flow.
