I want my truck to have that low pitch straight 6 growl. I dont like the briggs and stratton sound of the old chevys. OOps. Should I run dual pipes and turbos Or one big pipe? I might lose the cats. Ive got that Dual manifold setup. I might go for a header. I like the quiet of my truck, but when its pulling hard I want to hear something besides that air blowing out of the stock pipe.
I think if you loose the cats you'll pickup more tractor sound then automobile sound. Those 300s can easily sound like a tractor.
I had just a gibson cat-back on my other truck that had a straight six. It didn't have the tractor-like pitch, it sounded pretty good I liked that exhaust.
You might want to try www.exhaustsoundclips.com they have some I6 sounds on there. DT 466Man has 3'' straight pipe no cats no muffler on his and seems to like it. If you do a search there has been many topics about I6 exhaust systems Good luck
i have 2 1/2 in pipe out the front of the rear wheel with a glasspack. it sounds nice. it is quiet at idle but i can open it up and make it loud when i want. i am planning on taking the cat off for more sound though.
I got 2 1/2" dual straights no muffler/g.p./cats. 4"x24" tips. I can see where the tractor sound opinion comes from. It is that deeper kind of sound. Mine is pretty deep, and real loud, I used to have glasspacks, and that did quiet it down some. So if you're looking for deep but not loud, I'd throw those on. I wouldn't worry about headers, though. They sell em, but everyone on here that's got a 300 says its a good enough manifold to not need headers.
a friend of mine had an old 79 with a 300 and the rotten old stock single exhaust broke off under the cab he found an old swing set leg and jammed that sob in there and it sounded pretty good and the price was right.
