I have a 351w EFI that I am going to run true duals in the near future. I would like to know what is the best size pipe to run going from a single 2.25 ( I think thats stock, could be 2.5 though) to duals?
I would think that I would need to run only 2" pipe to keep adequate back pressure to avoid losing torque and responsiveness. Would 1 7/8" help more? I mean, wouldn't taking half of the exhaust out of a single make it flow like it had a 3" exhuast ? If it does, doesn't it make sense to reduce the pipe size for duals? I don't want exhaust that acts like a 3" system.
Any suggestions are welcome.
My plan is to run true duals with 24" cherry bombs (cheap, 17.99 at the local farm store) as far towards the back of the truck as possible to limit the amount of drone in the cab and extend the life of the glasspacks, and still have a decent sound from the rear (deeper, louder, without the popping and harshness). I thinking about using 2" pipes just for the better sound.
What do you think?

Sounds like a plan to me, very similar to what I have, but if your getting a shop to do it you may be limited to the pipe options that all depends I guess on where you go, if so then going with the 2" or 2 1/4" sounds like a winner and your plan to run the mufflers as far back as possible is a good one as well. Do you have exhuast manifolds? If so you might be surprised how quiet your exhuast turns out. Let us know how you like the sound, Good luck
On another note a lot of folks will argue the fact that freeing up your exhaust and decreasing backpressure doesn't hurt torque output. Actually the same folks will say that backpressure is never good and not required by the motor. I have no evidence to back this up so it is just what has been told to me by some engine builders, later
I have headers on my 302. I ran true duals from the headers straight back with 3" stainless with a tornado pack on each side. The truck has a deep, loud, but mellow tone. I also feel I picked up a lot of power and FUEL MILEAGE.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I will stay with the 2 1/4 pipe. Hope to have it done before thanksgiving, Slow and steady,(and well planned out), and I will get it done.
