I have a 04 f-250 with the v-10, It sounds kinda like it has an electric motor so I want to put a exhaust on it. I got under the truck to map out what I would need to buy an noticed the the pipe that goes from the manifolds to the "y" part reduce in size a good amount right before they weld together. Should I cut this out and weld in some larger size pipe so it is the same all the way. Dont want to kill my low end with back pressure issues- I have 38.5 inch tires and stock gears.Any advise on what to run would help too(cats, mufflers, dual no dual, h-pipe,Whatever!)Thanks
I have the same truck and some of the same concerns. I posted a topic under the V10 forum asking for advice on Flowmaster mufflers and the general consensus is either the 50 series or the 70 series. The 70 series is the more mild (in terms of sound) of the two, from what people have said.
However, I do not know what people are doing with that y-pipe, but I'd like some advice also. It looks restrictive to me, in terms of exhaust flow through to the muffler.
OK, my idea for the V-10 goes like this. I would run the Y pipe so it is duals. Then run an H with a Flowmaster (take your pick) on each pipe into some big ol chrome tips out the back. Might cost ya a little bit but in all reality should improve performance. I think V-10's sound freaking awesome with pipes. I envy you guys for having such nice trucks.
my buddy has a 2001 f350 with a v10 10in lift with 38.5 swampers on it. he has flowmaster 40 series and with dual rear exit slanted behind each rear tire . no cats and stock ypipe that truck sound awesome but it is a little loud but it helped out that motor so much
Changing the y pipe will effect your low end torque. I have changed the entire system on my 03' V10. Headers, y pipe, all pipes, muffler and tail pipe. I kept the stock cat due to the state I live are real sticklers for that crap. The headers I have have smaller tubes that standard headers too keep back pressure in balance with low end torque. The headers have a full 2.5" down tubes into a new Y pipe (2.5"). Then into a 3" lead pipe into the cat. 3" into muffler and 3.5" tail pipe. The system frees the engine up alot, and it sounds cool.
