Fmx To C6 Tranny Swap Need Help.

GETTING READY TO SWAP OUT MY TRASHED FMX CRUISOMATIC FOR A C6 IN MY 69 F100. wHAT PROBLEMS WILL I ENCOUNTER? AS FAR AS I CAN FIGURE THEY DIDN'T OFFER A C6 WITH THE 360 WHICH I HAVE THAT YEAR BUT THEY DID OFFER IT WITH A 390 AROUND THAT YEAR. WILL THERE BE PROBLEMS WITH THE OUTPUT SHAFT SIZE AND THE ADDITIONAL LENGTH OF THE C6? THANKS FOR THE HELP.

Have not done this in a truck, but I did in my Galexie. what I did find with the car was that the tail shaft was longer than the fmx, I had to cut a drive shaft to fit. The out put shaft was the same, the crossmenber/trans mount was differant. And the shifter was differant, C-6 went P-R-N-3-2-1, the fmx went P-R-D2-D1-L. If yu can get the trans mountfrom the donor truck. But if you getting the trans from a truck, you may not run into these things.

I thought they weren't using the FMX by '69? Wasn't 67 the last year?
My '69 f-250 360 has a C-6 in it, the ID plate says it should be a C-4 so I don't know if the plate's wrong or it's been upgraded.

A two piece drive shaft from a '67 up to '72 and possibly up to '79 will be the right length for your swap as long as your tailshaft has the splined output.

parkerusmc Welcome to FTE The best truck show on the net

1- Be sure to get a C6 from a pickup rather than a car, because the shifting arm is at a different angle. You can find them until 77. The last year the FE was offered in 76. All FEs are the same on that end of the engine, so hooking up the tranny isn't a problem. C6s all are one piece cases, with different bells. You will have to have a round top FE C6 case tranny. You may need to swap the column also, because the whole shifting operation is different.

2- Chevy_Eater your tranny has been swapped out, there were no C4s installed behind FEs. That would have been for the FMX family tranny with the C4 designation.

3- I went with a one piece driveshaft when I converted my pickup. That is an option.

So it sounds like I am going to need a two piece drive shaft from the 67-72 and a steering column from a c6 donor truck. anything else? what about the tranny bracket will it bolt up or need to be moved? THANKS for the help everyone!

I thought I had to move mine, but I went from a four speed to the auto. You should be able to measure from the bellhousing/engine block back to the mount and compare measurements from the two.

I have an auto C6 in my pickup, it binds when you try to go into L. As long as I leave it in D everything is fine. I have the piece to change but you have to remove the pan to do it, and I am getting near the milage for fluid replacement and will do it then.

The truck FMX is not the same as a car one. The truck is a MX-HD medium case Cruiso-o-matic. It is of the FMX family but not a standard FMX. The shift pattering is the P-R-N-D-2-1.

Ellemint-
If you would have got to me a day sooner I could have shipped them out to you, but I scrapped her yesterday. I'm sorry I wish I could help.
