I get 11.5-13 mpg in my 2005 F350 V10 auto. It only has 3100 miles. Maybe when summer is over I'll get more. Then the bugs hitting the windshield and creating a counterforce will be diminished. Love this NEW beast, and don't give a damn about mileage. If so, I would have bought either a bug deflector or a Mini Morris!!!!
It's funny but in March 2005 I created a new thread titled $3.00/ gallon gasoline. I guess it's here in spades.
Kurthb - Ha! I get 10% better mileage than you do. Its always 10.x. Well, wait a minute.... you said 9 towing, and mine's 10 empty..... oh well... BSEG forever....
E450 V10 powered motorhome pulling a Jeep Wrangler, grossed at around 18,000 lbs. This is an '04 with the Torqshift tranny and 4:56 gears, and a little over 4K miles on it.
Running easy, backroads, 60mph max, easy on the starts, feathering the throttle I get 8.4--8.8 mpg.
Running interstate, staying with some traffic, 65-70 mph I get 6.4 mpg.
I am amazed at how this thing pulls well down to around 1700 rpm.

Here is the truth all V10s average 11-13mpg mixed and 12-15 highway empty
Loaded fuel efficiency depends too much on load, road and BSEG effect.
There is five years of this question asked at least once a week here and up in the SuperDuty and PSD forums.
There are a small amount of trucks that get 8-11 average and a few that claim 15-17 average.
Trust me the three V10 versions all get about 12.5MPG lifetime average. Slightly less if the BSEG effect includes a slight drool.
mostly true Fred, but just mostly. The exception is when talking to a diesel owner, then my towing mileage goes to 18, uphill, in hurricane force winds, at 20,000 feet altitude with 22,000 pounds of trailer going 75 mph in OD. And 29 around town/solo highway.
Is there any indication that the 3Vversion mated with the 5speed and 4.10's get less than their 2V 4 speed 3.73 versions? If this is the case than all 05+'s will get less maileage than pre 05's no?
It would make sense to me that the 05+'s WILL get less mileage, lower rear end ratio combined with more HP=less fuel efficiency.
My 05 3vV10 4.30:1 is averaging 2mpg less then my 01 2v 310hp with 3.73:1... The 05 is about 1000lbs heavier with fuel and that with the 4.30s is where I feel the loss comes in... in either event a 2v v10 or 3vV10 are significantly more effecient than any 460CI in a 800lb lighter truck. I was lucky to get 10 and most of the mixed driving was at 8mpg EMPTY!
as high as 16 on a highway trip, literally gas station to gas station driving less than 65, never repeated though so far. Average 11-12 most of the time.

Lower rear ends, but the 05+ also have larger tires from the factory which makes up for it a bit. It's not as big of a jump as some would think. The 3.73's might make a nice option though for people who don't tow alot.
99-04 (not sure about tires)
3.73's with 245/75-16 tires is 1899 rpm at 65 mph
05+
4.10's with 265/70-17 tires is 2012 rpm at 65 mph
4.30's with 265/70-17 tires is 2110 rpm at 65 mph
4.10's with 275/70-18 tires is 1918 rpm at 65 mph
4.30's with 275/70-18 tires is 2012 rpm at 65 mph
if option was available
05+
3.73's with 265/70-17 tires is 1830 rpm at 65 mph
3.73's with 275/70-18 tires is 1745 rpm at 65 mph
All rpm are calculated assuming a transmission with a .71 OD ratio
