AH, honesty, I agree with the above posts. 12 around town, 15 highway going to OBX, also does depend on if the tourist is able to get my goat, then it is BSEG.
Gotta love the V 10 forum the only reason I still read this site.
12mpg here too. But isn't that just amazing. I mean a truck this heavy and powerful and capable of doing the things it does. Before I got this truck I would have expected a gas Crewcab 4X4 that can tow, haul and haul @$$ like this one does to get 6-8mpg. I remember many trucks that were less capable and were proud of 10mpg. I love this truck.
Just checked the mileage today,,336 miles,,28.9 gallons to fill it, that's 11.6 mpg, some highway, some main roads, some stop and go,,04' F-350, V-10, XLT, 4x4, SC, 6-speed, 4:30 DRW, weighs 7980 lbs give or take, 23 k on it now,,,Love this truck,, .
You must have been breathing too many diesel fumes when you thought of that post. LOL.
he-he-he...
Over the past couple of years I've seen so many of these threads - some exaggerated to the max and no smileys indicating that they were fooling...so I decided to add a little stretch myself --- with a disclaimer as a footnote.
I have 16000 miles on my SD V10 since I took delivery on 1st of March this year.
I check mileage every time I buy gas, with hand calculator. Empty 14 mpg is not unusual. Most of the miles so far have been with truck loaded and pulling trailer wt of 5000 lb more or less.
Worst mileage was just under 10. Did that 3 times. Also got 15+ just 3 times.
Loaded and Pulling 5-6000 lb usually between 10 and 11, seldom as high as 12.
Anyway, empty and not towing, no problem to Ave. over 13.5. Towing I couldn't promise you 12 although with careful driving, maybe.
We just moved down south from Anchorage AK to Northern CA (Beale AFB). We couldn't ever open up and use cruise or anything in AK, down here we use it as often as possible. The KR has right below 15K miles on it now and the best we've ever registered is 14.5; used GPS and Hand Math to figure that because the trip computer was well off by 3MPG.
My wife is now driving it to Sac and back 3 times a week, 110 miles round trip. She gets 12 most of the time with the A/C on. Now that the temp is not so hot she doesn't have to use the A/C so much and she's seeing 12.5-13.0...
We've stuck with the oil change regiment of ever 5K miles due to the highway driving and nothing serious in the stop and go here or in AK. I personally use Mobil 1 for my own reasons, but I've not had to add any oil what so ever in between changes.
Now to my point of concern and reasoning behind me posting on the string...
Everyone that has ever worked on a vehicle knows you can smell a rich running engine as well as see the results of a rich running engine in the tail pipe (Dark Black and Sooty)
I know a lot of people might tell me my computer would never run it rich or whatever they might say to back up Ford's reasoning for this but I know this engine is running RICH. I'm going to take it in soon to have the dealer do the recall work and while he's at it I'm going to tell him he needs to see if one of the algorithms might be a little off.
A engine running within the right parameters should have a Light white tail pipe, period. Catalytic converters convert heavy hydrocarbon gases to a cleaner lighter gas, there is no supporting evidence that a lighter gas could continue to deposit a darker substance upon exiting the tail pipe. This engine is running WAY TO RICH and I'm going to find out why.
Hey UTChaz, Welcome to the area. Im in Yuba City and drive up 65 every morning to Rocklin. Of course I use the Civic not the Superduty. Anyway I've only had my truck in for service one time at Geweke Ford, (rad hose clamps broke) they put me back on the road same day. Let us know what the service dept. says. And like I said welcome to the area.
