I've been reading all the suggestions on where to hook up your EGT gauge. I did not hook mine up but after climbing under the hood and following the feed wire I found where it was. On the down pipe after the turbo. Its basically a huge hose clamp with a sensor soldered on there. It will be easy to move but not sure where to hook it up to read the "Pre Turbo" Temp readings. Can anyone explain for me?
You can either drill and tap the exhaust manifold, or install it just like it is in the up pipe just after the exhaust manifold on the drivers side. If you put it back on the way it is mounted now, make sure you use a Stainless steel clamp and you HAVE to have the ceramic washer to seal the probe to the tubing. I'll bet that when you move it, the ceramic washer will fall apart, so you will need to order one from one of our sponsers. The band clamp might be reuseable, but I would purchase a new one and not try to deal with it.
i wouldnt use the band clamp again on the up-pipe method if you are going that route. the downpipe is 3.5'', and the up pipe is around 2''. so it would be alot of slack, if the threads are even cut up that far (is it like a hose clamp, i assume) i dilled mine in the manifold. here is a pic of where i put mine.
HERE is the link to the install on my 7.3, I dont have pictures of the pyro probe but this is a LINK to the install on my dad's 6oh, the egt install is the same.
Stroken it, looks good you say you drilled and tapped it running? Man you guys back east sure get the Rust. My California truck the manifolds only have a light surface coat.
