Hello people i just got a '59 F100 and i want to lower it dont want IFS can any of you help there must be a cheap way of doing it! Could i mount the front axle over the springs or is this a serious no no.
Welcome Mr Horton -
Best way I've heard of is to buy a dropped axle. Don't think mounting your original over the springs would be good for the front geometry. While your at it you might as well rebuild the front suspension to give you good steering and a pleasant ride.
Welcome to the forum. I'm a stocker myself so I don't have a good feel for all the options to lower your truck. I'm sure some of the crew will be along and give you some more ideas.
When you get a chance, read through the sticky threads at the top of the forum and start up a gallery. We all love to see pictures of new projects or daily drivers.
I have heard of guys with them fridge trucks pulling springs to lower it. I lowered my 1st 1960 by heating the springs just by the eyes to create a bed in them, but the 2nd 60 is IFS and 4 link. I dont think there is a drop axle for the 57-60 yet, but again heard that a 53-56 might be close for a dropped axle
Might be another fridge guy to help us out on this
It depends on how much you want to lower it. I have seen reverse eye springs that will give a couple inches. And I agree with Leckart, while you are there rebuild the front end it will save double work.
