I had a huge post and got called away and I lost it..
Long story short.. I bought and installed a SCT flip chip and went through 2 starters in 2 days. I took the chip out and it is fine now...
Only thing I notice is now when the truck is shifted from drive to a non load gear like park or neutral the RPM's drop down below 500. I would say to the 450 range. Yet when in gear and idling they stay up at about 650 where they should be.
What would cause this?
Maybe it was always there but now I am noticing it?
LxMan1 is right, reset the computer and see what happens.
How could a chip kill starters? It can't... unless something is very wrong with it and it's advancing the timing way up when you're cranking it. But that means it's not the starter.
