i have put two spindles on each side of my 73 f250 the first set was not the right ones the second set were but my problem is each time i have replaced them after running for awhile the hub becomes loose. what am i doing wrong ? my steering is not up to par but it is functional could this be a problem also im running 35/12.5/16.5 bfg muds could this be to big for the truck to handle due to age? i have enough room of lift to go to 39"s which i want to but if i cant keep 35's on then whats the use also i cant afford to demolish too many spindle they aren't easy to find for my truck. thanks for help if i cant solve this its going to go for sale cheap

Hi

if your hub is coming loose, are you sure you are adjusting the wheel bearings correctly? once you put the outer bearing in the bore, you tighten it down with a special hex nut. this nut also has a protruding pin that grabs a special indexed washer (to hold the adjustment) If you dont have this type, you might have the 'bend-over' locking washer type--but i doubt it. Once the pin engages the washer, you torque everything down with an OUTER HEX NUT. this torque has to be fairly tight! I would suggest getting the appropriate socket to do this right. If this doesnt work.....care to ship the truck to NJ?

yes i have tightened the inner nut down on the bearing and made sure that the hub would still rotate properly i also have the pin /hole type setup and all this is new on both sides i bought at the ford dealership i make sure the outer nut is tighter against thefirst one also i have not taken it apart yet just checked it today to see if movement was present and it was not sure what to do give good price and ill ship it lol

Hey
I just thought of something. Are you sure that you are getting the correct wheel spindles? If they are too long or IF you are using the wrong tapered wheel bearings, that WILL throw off the adjustment for sure. BTW, where are you located? Im in New Jersey

i had some on that i bought when the first original set(?) went bad i assume they were 73' the first set was from a 78-79 it would go on but because of the roller bearings in the other end the axle wouldn't fit properly to allow it to go into 4 wheel drive and also held it back from the end of the spindle so i couldn't put the clip ring on the axle to hold the hub gears in ... so i found one on the internet that was from a 72 f250 3500 pound and it looked identical to my busted originals. it also had the brass(?) insert instead of the roller bearings so it worked well in that aspect right now thats were i stand that one is on the drivers and i have one of the 78-79 on the passengers i am not using 4x4 by any means I have found another one that is a 73 f250 not far from my home for $50 so im going to get it to make both sides good i live in roanoke va give me some good money and let my loss be your gain i see that you have alot of trucks you could salvage mine for parts
