i just rebuilt my 79 302 before summer, and it is running pretty good, i swapped the original worn cam for a melling Rv cam, and i was wondering if different cams use different timings. The sticker on it says something about it..."
SAE timing
btc - 27
abc - 73
bbc - 75
atc - 34
.050 timing
btc - -6
abc - 30
bbc - 43
atc - -9
On my truck, it says to set the timing at 10 degrees btc...but im getting some pinging, and hoping thats whats causing it...any thoughts would be great..thanks
Yes. Lots of variables, and I'm no expert either. A lot of modern cams have built in cam advance of say like 4 degress or so. (Comp Cams does this I know) Your particular engine set up with mods will affect how the timing will end up.
