Timing light???

Timing light???
I have 93 f150 5.0 auto. I have marked the damper at 12 degrees btc. I have an equus digital dial back timing light. When it is zeroed out and set the distributor at 12, everything is great. Just playing with the light, I set the light back to 12 degrees..... Shouldnt the balancer show zero now?? It doesnt, it is about 10 degrees atc.
Do i jusr not know how to use this kind of light, or is something else going on?

Oh yes. Its running great, im just curious about the light. Also, if i set the timing by the advance on the light by setting the lght at 12 and advancing the distributor till the balancer was at zero, i ended up at 20 degrees when i zeroed the light.
