ignition switch assembly.
before we start, 66 F100, swb, with 302, auto. custom cab...
I got a key made for my truck, and I went to use it to start it. But the ignition switch is apart.
The black plastic piece that the wiring harness went into has seperated from the metal housing that holds the tumbler.
as of right now I have a black plastic disk that fits into a copper looking disk. That in turn goes onto the black plastic piece that has the wiring harness.
My problem is that the spring on the plastic disk keeps popping out, which binds up.
Also the black plastic piece that the loom goes into wll not stay attached to the metal housing. It is not secured in any way. What is the best way to resecure it?

You need a new switch. The key and tumbler part can be re-used. If you put the old one back together, it's just going to come apart again. probably at the worst possible time. Just get a new one and be done with it.

ignition switch wiring
I just purchased my 1966 F-100 LB at an auction. Does anyone know what wires are which in order to attach the ignition switch? I found that the ignition switch was wired incorrectly. I don't know which wire is the "On" wire. I shorted the red and yellow together and got the engine to crank up but as soon as I openned the connection, the engine stopped. Please help me. I'm new.

I have no business answering this as I only tinker with boat engines. But it's usually green or black/green that is the run wire. yellow and green then touch red to start. But I'm not going to tell you to do it. wait for someone more knowledgeable on this..
