Procomp anyone???

Hey guys im looking to upgrade my ignition system on my 460 and I was wondering if anyone has used the Procomp Electronics brand? Theyre inexpensive but I just wonder if they are cheap as well? They seem to be MSD knockoffs and have a descent warranty on them. Id love to clean up the engine bay with an HEI, but being a Ford fan I wonder if something is aftermarket (like these HEIs) could it still be considered GM? Id like to hear from those that have first hand knowledge of them. THanks Dave

What year is the truck? the ford duraspark system will put up with quite a bit and is a cheap (read inexpensive) if its an older truck (running points)

What exactly do you have now and what is your plan?

I have a 78 F-250 with a 460. I used the OE ignition system from the 400. I would like a little better cold starting and a rev limiter that has dials instead of the pills like msd. My rpm limit is 6000(if i had a limiter). Oh yeah I would like to clean up the engine compartment, one or two wires would look al lot better than all of the ones on there now. The 460 is a mild build with comp cams extreme 4x4 k kit, headers and a weiand stealth intake and speed demon 850 double pump that has been jetted down 1 or 2 jet sizes. It is running at about 10.2:1 compression. I am happy with the performance of the engine but the cold(winter) starts suck and since I mud it I would like a rev limiter so if I brake something major it wouldnt over rev the engine.

Have you considered one of MSD's 6 series ignitions?

This one (if the link doesnt work go to summit racing and type in msd-6470) is designed for offroad use and has rev limiter upgradeability (it has a harness to plug into an MSD one)

Im not too sure hard starting in cold weather has much to do with the igniton system, that however is off-topic

hope that suggestion helps

you can buy a adjustable limiter for the MSD that uses a dial in varying rpm ranges, I run one in my race truck that ranges from 7600-9800.

I've used an Accel 300+ with a duraspark dist for years without any trouble and it has a dial rev limiter. The universal one comes with a coil and doesn't cost alot.
