OK, I have ponied up the necessary British Pounds Sterling to obtain said hubs. They'll be here is a few days. Brendan, I appreciate your help, Im looking forward to the pics, and I hope you will be open to more questions. I hope it is as simple as you say, I know replacing the PVH hub is a complicated job.
Wow this may finally be an end to all that bull with the 98 and 99 rangers PVH lock system. A quick question, does the AVM manual hub use the Pulse Vacuum in any way? Can you disconect and forget about the vacuum pump? Thanks for finally trying these hubs out, and keep us posted with their performance!

The AVM hubs are manual lockers. So you won't need the vacuum for anything regarding the 4WD system. If it were me and I were installing the manual lockers on my '98, I would simply unplug the connector for the PVH solenoid.
I'm curious too as to what is involved with regard to installing the AVM hubs. I know that the PVH hub and bearings are an integral assembly, so it would seem to me that the PVH "hub assembly" would have to remain, and that the AVM hub would have to fit over that, at least to some degree. Of course without looking at it myself, I'm just theorizing here, but that's what it sounds like.
The real point, though, is that if the PVH hub assembly does remain on the truck, then it would naturally follow that making sure it stays sealed and protected has to remain a priority, since it contains the all-important bearings. If for whatever reason the bearings fail, then we are essentially right back in the same boat we were before, which is, in need of a replacement PVH hub assembly.
Thanks for sharing this info, and please keep us posted!
OK, I have them. Based on a quick examination, I would say that they obviously do not replace the entire PVH wheel hub. So, Rockledge, you would seem to be correct. They do appear to be very simple to install as Brendan said. Apparently, they replace the "outer" part of the wheel hub. They seem to be of reasonable quality and basically bypass the vacuum engagement system, so failure of that portion of the system is no longer a worry. My guess is that one need not do anything with the vac line, I suspect that after install the vac status is a nonfactor. I may not have a chance to install them for a week or so, but I will post an update.
baisically it jus slips on over the splines and clips in. I attempted posting pics but they cannot be viewed so i believe i have them posted in my gallery now so u guys can see them there.

So what is the better solution this type of switch to a AVM hub or to switch over to the Explorer hub and axle set up discussed in another thread here?
I installed mine last night. Not including jacking and removing/replacing wheels, it took literally 5 minutes. I didnt do anything to the vac system, I believe it is simply irrelevant now.
This is certainly easier and way cheaper than trying to swap an axle from some other vehicle.
Im going to try to find some dirt today to actually test the new setup.
Amazingly simple isnt it. Makes you kinda wonder why a company in brazil made it and not an american company. Ohh, BTW who is their new dealer? When I ordered mine I went through KS International but it seems they arnt the dealers anymore.
