351 trans suggestions, Please look here, I need help fast, by tommorow maybe

Right now my 351 is backed by a C6. I found a five speed with bell housing, clutch, and pedal, plus all hardware for $100. The only problem is the transmission is on a '86 or so 300 inline six. Is the bell housing the same on the engines? I heard that the 300 bell housing would bolt up to a 351C and I also heard that a 351C bell housing would bolt to a 351W. Would this transmission be strong enough for my application even if it did fit?

James T., if you have the 351W, I believe the bellhousing will line up. I think that the 351W, 302, and 300 all used the same bellhousing pattern. This is only from what I've read here on the forums, so hopefully someone else will chime in to confirm.

Thanks for posting so quick. If it will work I may be on my way to get the trans this week. I do have to pull it myself, but it's still an awesome deal. I just hope the torque capacity of the trans is enough. My engine probably puts out 350 ft/lbs at the most

If it's behind a 300-6, I wouldn't worry about it. Those things put out enough torque to pull stumps! I'd say jump on it.

Motorhead351 posted this in another topic.

The mazda gearing is as follows:

1st - 3.90
2nd - 2.25
3rd - 1.50
4th - 1.00
5th - .80

ZF:

1st - 5.72
2nd - 2.94
3rd - 1.61
4th - 1.00
5th - .76

If it is a ZF and you do not want it, send me a message and I will jump on it in a heartbeat!

If you look up M5OD and Ford ZF on eBay you will be able to find pictures of both. That should help educate you.

If it is from the early 80's it could also be a T-18 or T-19. Reading more in the transmission forums might help you out a bit with those.

the zf doenst have a removable bellhousing so if this tranny does than its probably the m5od which is not very strong.
