different weight flexplate
I am putting a different 5.0 L in my '92 F-150 4 x 4 with the E4od. I have a unit out of an '80 Cougar almost ready to go in. I know there is an issue with the flexplates between the old ones and the '92. I only have one flexplate right now - the one out of my '92. my question is, can i use the flexplate and the vibration dampner off of my '92 on the '80 engine? Will this balance my '80 engine again? would you expect any other differences in between the two blocks? I think i should be able to put all my sensors and induction parts on this one and drop it in right?
thanks guys for alll your help as always.
Micheal
It's more than just the flexplate and dampner that determines the balance, it's also internal.
I think you will need a flexplate from a 351W that had an E4OD behind it. The 351W stayed with the 28 oz. imbalance. You could use dampner from a late '70s 302 with the 4-bolt pulley pattern if you don't already have a dampner for your '80 302.
For the rest of your questions, I think you should be okay, but be aware you've probably got about the worst heads Ford ever put on these engines, and probably not much in the way of a cam either. Expect it to be down on power a bit from your old engine.
