I think it looks more like a truck in this trim than the standard XLT trim. I actually want those tube steps boards instead of the running boards I have now. Which model had those steps last year? I know there was an XLT sub-model that had these on it, but don't remember what it was called. Should be easy enough to get rid of my current running boards to an XL owner.
I'm with you. I'd trade my black EB boards for black XLT tube steps anyday.
Wow has this thread really evolved... I too have a set of pueblo gold running boards sitting in my garage. If anyone knows anyone interested, tell 'em to shot me a PM or e-mail. I took mine off when I did my paint work. Patiently waiting on these...
I love the chrome tubular step bars... they just look tougher I think. I also have Westin's bull bar on my expy. Piecing it all together right now!

Does this count? Can you see that tiny little sticker in the lower corner of the window, it says Roush and I have no Roush parts yet! Just like their products.
put whatever the hell you want on there, its your truck, you bought it.
I'll second that!
However, if you really wanted to be cool, then get some factory FX4 chrome letters and put them on the driver & passenger side doors right above the cladding.
You can go to www.billetbadges.com and have some custom emblems made or try the stealership and get the decals that say "off road 4x4" like the 01 and earlier trucks had. Also ranger FX4 decal is much smaller and would fit the rear quarter of the Ex better.
I put N-Fab nefs on our Ex and the difference in looks over the plastic boads is 1000 times better. www.n-fab.com
JKBrad, got any pics with those nerf bars on the truck? That's exactly what I was looking at last weekend. There was a Ford E-450 support vehicle at the off-road races last weekend that had these. That was the first I saw of them and I thought they looked cool. Definately different than the standard aftermarket tube steps.
This week I installed the Truxxx spacer kit (3" front, 2" rear) www.truxxx.com and just today I laid down the cash for some Pro-Comp 17x9 (1089's) and a set of Pro-Comp 33x12.50/17's (buy 3 get 1 free from 4WP). Two wheels were being sent from another warehouse so I should have them by Tuesday. My current running boards will definately have to go or the tires will trim them up real quick. I will be posting a detailed install and review of the Truxx kit as soon as I get it all together.
The NBX model replaced the FX/4 package for 2004. During the early '05 production run, Ford discontinued the NBX model.
In addition to the step tubes, you got skid plates, specially tuned Sachs shocks, blacked-out headlights, chromed steel wheels (yuk), and the best thing of all- a vinyl cargo area floor cover.
The NBX also doesn't have a tire pressure monitor system... no problems changing rims.
All the decals are gone... front bull bar gone... it was getting a little too ghetto for me right under my nose! I now have the 20" Roush rims on with Toyo Proxes S/T tires... love it! The truck just looks good now, but not bling-bling. I'll post up pics soon.
Rick
BTW, saw an FX4 today, looked kinda cool, kinda tough. Liked it.
