BigBlock, I'm glad to have someone else working on a similar engine / buildup. Eventually I will be doing more to it, but for now I will be replacing the filters and some of the sensors. I will also be doing a rewire of the fuel pumps to help compensate the lean situation. I know I'll be fine from there.

I will probably will eventually get new headers and at least new cats if not a full exhaust with it, but we'll see about that.

I would definately like to take a look at the pics of your portwork and any advice you have to give. I know a bit about porting, just not specific to this head. Feel free to post up here or PM. Thanks man!!

Here is a link to the pics of my heads and what I've done to them thus far: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/badhon...76.jpg&.src=ph

Not the best pictures, but it'll give you an idea of where these heads need the most improvement. I know alot of people like to really enlarge the exhaust ports on these heads, but I just cleaned them up real nice and only ported them slightly. Reason being is that these were designed as a 'fast burn' head, and the small exhaust ports increase port velocity. Ford engineers designed it that way for a reason, so I basically left it well enough alone. We'll see if that was the right decision when I run it on the dyno, but my guess is that they will perform quite well, cetrainly better than stock.

Our heads are a bit different. I just checked mine and they are F7TE's. I know the compression on mine would be less as I have a full recess where the valves are (the proper term escapes me now). Other than that, I don't see any huge differences. Do you have pics that are a bit closer on the ports?

Correction, I have E7FT's... the head I checked first had the code half ground off so I had to check the other one

So round one of porting is done now. This weeked I managed to get 3 1/2 of the ports done on one head. I cleaned up some irregularities around the seats and took the bosses down a bit. Port matched the exhaust side (not much to remove here) and gasket matched the intake side (I had done the same to the intake mani).

The backs of some of the valves were hideous. Thick, scaly carbon buildup all over the place. Just nasty. I'll post some pics up later if I get the chance.

Guys Rookie question here.... I have a 88 F250 that the bearings and cam are wiped. I also have a new 78 shortblock. As i need to have the truck up and running are there any differences i need to be forewarned of relative to using the eariler block along with the 88 Fi heads and intake.

The 78 was put together with a mild RV cam and the timing straight up.

Ok, this weekend's work marks the completion of the portwork and polish. Ports look great. Now it's off to the shop for a bath and a valve job. I'll post pics when I get the chance. My lady has the memory card reader now...

Given the looks of the water passages in the first pics, I'd suggest using distilled water in your cooling system next time. It's less than 70 cents a gallon at Wally World.

How are you going to rewire the pumps to help the lean condition? Won't the regulator bleed off any extra pressure you put in there? Since you had a lean condition before from looking at the valves won't porting the heads and intake make this condition worse? Maybe look at bigger injectors and a tweezer(sp) programmer?

Did these motors run 24lbs injector stock?

Can you install an adjustable regulator on these motors? Then boost the pressure about 5lbs to help the lean condition.
