I'm not sure how many people put them in daily drivers. I would think most people put them in toys. 400-500HP prob not a good idea for a daily driver if your worried about MPG. I don't worry about MPG or the price of gas for a toy.. I am very lucky that I have a company truck with a gas card. When I build one it will be for weekends only...

I drive my 393 around often when I can. It's still not up and running perfectly so I don't drive it much just yet. But it won't be that bad on mileage and I plan to drive it often when it's ready.

I was getting 14-16 hwy before, 12-14 city. Since everything is brand new, it's a lot more efficient than the older engine. It also has so much more torque that I don't need to be in the pedal as much for normal driving manouvers and towing. For example, I used to need 1/2 throttle or more to keep the truck going 75-80, the littlest grade would definitely need more than 1/2 throttle. It would take a decent climb at full throttle...but I can do the same with about 1/4 throttle, and if you push the pedal further, it'll just go at it harder. The old motor would just sit there and chug away. Much more fun

The way I look at it, is if you keep the rpms down and stay off the gas, you'll be fine in gas consumption. It's when you open it up that you burn up the gas. I'll see 400-450hp soon with it. It's the price you pay for more power.

CHP did send me a few wrong parts....but theres more to the story. I've explained it before (i don't hide this part of the story it's just long) but the guy who I dealt with every time turned out to not really know what he was doing or something of that nature. He was fired basically right after my time talking to him. CHP did fix every mistake they made even though it was a PITA. They gave me all the credits due and I really can't say anything against the company itself. They do make good engine parts and motors, and so far I'm happy with the quality of the engine sold to me. I didn't have anybody check it before I did anything with it. I would buy another engine from them. It's fine

I got plans to swap out my 302 with a 351W sometime with full EFI setup. My idea was to get a dogged 1994-1996 truck, buy a long block from www.hiperformer.com (or any other good place), and complete the swap. Well, since you guys started talking about the 393, I got interested.

I don't know of any reputable machine shop in central illinois to have them build an engine for me (or rebuild the one from the truck I will buy). Hence, I was looking at places like hiperformer.

Justin do you have a link for CHP? I didn't know they gave you credits for the wrong parts. One guy can hurt a company I guess. It's worth a phone call since I have the winter to get this done. Thanks, Dan

Dan,here a couple that I have heard are reliable in Quincy. I have no personal experience with them, but between the two of them they build over half the race engines at our local dirt track, and I don't see to many of them go up in smoke in a season's time.

Need some education. If I go look for a truck and I find out whose VIN says it is a 351W, how do I make sure that the truck actually have that engine and that it was not swaped out at some point for a 302 ?(Not that anyone would do that for just the heck of it).

Easiest way to tell is that the intake manifold on a 302 has more squared runners where as the 351 has more oval shaped runners.

You should prob start a new thread with your question. The 351 is wider than the 302. I think the intake is like 1 1/2"-- 2" wider ... I do know the exact measurement. Someone will around here though.
