Hey yall....I am looking at getting rid of the leaf springs and putting 4-link or ladderbars and coil-overs. Has anyone done this on their f-100? I know how to do it, just want to see if anyone has done it and has any pics. i dont want to lower it anymore than it is now.
Been there-Done that; If you just want to control wheel-hop, go with ladderbars. If you want to improve handling, and put more power to the ground, 4-link with a watts link for lateral control is the only way to go. But more $$. You get what you pay for. Sorry no picks, did this 20 years ago on a 67 short bed!! Have fun. FABMANDELUX
Allright guys. I was looking at the parts on summit racing, and it is going to be more than i was planning to spend. I still want to do something to the rear end. I have decided that I am going to move the shackles and hangers to the inside of the frame, move the shocks closer together, and put wider wheel tubs in. Would it be of any advantage just to put ladder bars on with the leaf springs? I really need something for more traction.
Yeah I have a detriot. I still think im going to move the leafs to the inside, and tub it out. I can do this for almost nothing. All i need is a little bit of steel, perches, shock mounts, and some bolts. What are cat-tracks?
Another thing you can try,I've done it too, is look for a rear aux fuel tank that was an option on these trucks. It fits where the spare tire normaly fits, install it and put a drain valve on the bottom. When you want to have some fun, just fill with water, Realy holds down the rear as it is behind the rear axel. When you'r done just drain the tank and you won't lose any mpg due to aditional weight!
You could look for an old Chevy, pre 72. Many had control arms and coil springs. It could give you an idea on how to build your own setup. It was practically a ladder bar setup, worked pretty good for the most part.
'71Bad1, poor typing or finger coodination on my part. What I meant was Cal- Tracks. They are a kind of traction link that goes under the leafs. Mayhem was running in the low 11.00s with them on his 66F100. Some of the Mustang guys use them on leaf spring cars and are in the 9.0s DF
You won't do any major upgrades for less than $300 for sure!! Ladder bar requires "floaters" to work properly, and 4 link is BIG money.
Cal-tracs are a good bet. It takes some work to get them installed, but work very well once tuned in.
If you have some welding capabilities...then how about making a set of slapper bars? Typical car units won't work on trucks since axle is below springs, but with some fab'n you could made a set.
James Duff Enterprises has a set of traction bars for $89. They bolt on top of the leaf spring. I called and they said they would work only if it is SOA.
