Ok I just recently got a 86 f-350 with a 351 4v HO in it, unfortunitly the air cleaner was stolen out of it prior to me purchasing it. I went to the junk yard and was able to find a 85 351 4v HO air cleaner and though I was good to go.
But to my dismay the aircleaner does not fit! Its way to short causing the intake tube to stick up like crazy and the base not to touch the carb. Sucks...
Does anyone who has a 86 with a 351 4v HO have a picture, or can take a picture of the cleaner assy, mabey the inside portion too; mainly cause i have 3 tubes that go to it and I am wondering what hooks where.
What's hitting exactly? The port where the hose hooks to the exhaust manifold?
The intake does resemble that one, the one i found at the yard was from an 85 f-250 351 4v HO but i can not get it to sit down on the carb. the base of the cleaner acts like it needs one of those 1-2 inch spacers added on just to clear all the hoses on the truck. As it is now the snorkle part is pushed up way high cause of all the hoses etc, that in turn makes the base not touch the carb. Even if i press pretty hard on the cleaner it still wont sit on the carb right, just not high enough. Also my truck has two large hoses that connect to the air cleaner? on the passenger side, and the driver side has one pvc. The air cleaner does not have enough holes for the two on the passenger side. What I really need to know is what those 2 hoses on the passenger side connect to, do they both get pvc filters like the drivers side?
The truck is 100% stock except for the missing air cleaner. What a freaking pain!@!@$#@ I can't belive there is that much diffrent from 85 -86 air cleaners.
If you are talking about the two small vacuum hoses like in the picture, they are for the flapper valve in the snorkel. One of those lines will connect to a vacuum source on th engine, and you have to unplug it everytime you take the aircleaner off. This line runs up to a air temp sensor mounted in the side of the aircleaner. There is another line that leaves the temp sensor, and hooks to the flapper valve in the snorkel. This controls the temp of the incoming air, either drawing it up from the exhaust heat, or from the front of the truck. Definitely hook this up if you have to drive in the winter time, or it will give you a fit.
This should have been plug and play. All the lines should have been there on the junkyard unit, and all you have to do is plug in the one line into the carb or manifold, set it down on there, and hook up the hose to the exhaust, and the one to the front radiator support. I would go back to the junkyard and try again.
