Seen it done son! Way more than once. H@ll I've seen it done on the street and on the track. Besides if the 427 Chev was so great, why did GM make very, very few of the 427. Made tons of 396 hot rod motors and their truely big gun the 454. But they made so few of the 427s that over half of the 427 Camaros were actually 396s.

I ain't never seen me an aluminum boat anchor, but I done seen me an aluminum 427...in my garage! And your right, it's real good at irrigation work, it'll dig side by side ditches about as long as you want 'em!
As a side note, I was helping a buddy move a wood burning stove into his garage yesterday, and I told him he should put a Chevy emblem on it. He asked why, so I told him because:
1. It weighs a ton.
2. It runs hot.
3. It takes 3 guys to move it.
4. And it'll spend most of it's life in the garage!
Gtex might be on to something! Btw the ls6 made 450hp. i watched the muscle car shootout last year and the 429 boss mustang beat it. Another heavy motor!!
Stock '69 428CJ in a Torino Cobra ran 13.90 with great weather conditions and 13.95 weekly at 101 mph. That was with piddily narrow F70 junk Goodyears.
You guys know I love my Fords and my FE. I just don't see bashing a cheby motor just because it's a cheby motor. That LS1 camaro motor is the best motor I've ever owned. Why I traded that car in on a jeep, I may never know. Damned new car itch gets me sometimes. Now, I've got what has to be one of the worst engines in production today (at least from a performance standpoint, maybe it's super dependable).
Anyway, the new LS6 stuffed into a new Z06 vette, makes for the fastest , best handling most efficient muscle car to ever be mass produced in this Country (probably any country for that matter). You gonna look at those stats and say "It's just a Cheby" and a 429 Boss Mustang outran it? then, I want to know more about that 429 Boss :-)
As for the 300Six guys. ya gotta love 'em! I've owned one myself. Run what ya brung! (Unless it's a new jeep, that's just embarasssing. but don't try to follow me)
you are right I need to get a life or maybe a better one. Sorry I couldn't help myself.
If that's you...sorry. I thought it was just someone trollin looking to start $#it...
My only encounter with a Chevy 427 was back in HS. Kid had a 60's something Impala (maybe?) vert with a 427 4 sp. He was too wasted to race me in the Mach1....LOL. G.
Guys, what is this nonsense about a modern EFI engine and 30mpg ?!! The LS6 can't be a better engine than either 427, it ain't that differant. The crank and pistons are differant, but the rest of an LS6 is just like any other chevy big block. The blocks are too short, only 9 1/2 inches tall, and this forces you to have short, 6.136, connecting rods. The FE is 10.17 tall, and has a 6.488 connecting rod. And FEs don't have the goofy port layout a big chevy does. The LS6 was a production big chevy 454 from something like 67-72 IIRC. So it is a few years newer than our 427, 63-72, big deal. Ours is better. DinosarFan, at his work.
