I'm looking for some good ideas on how to propose to my girlfriend. I have an idea of what I'm going to do but if I can get some other opionions on how to do it I might find something I like better.
I will be proposing of her on the week of July 4th. I'm planning on taking a trip to Gatlinburg, TN that week. While I'm there I want to take her to a romantic spot up on the mountain and do it their. I was thinking about one of the scenic overlooks on the parkway and possibly getting a bystander up there to use my camera to get a picture of me doing it.
Just please offer an opinion on what I was thinking about and if you have something you think is better please post it. Thank you.
I think your idea will work great. How ever you propose, I am sure she will love it. I've never really thought about how to propose since I have never been that close to marriage. But I do know that when the time comes, I will write my own wedding vows. I like the idea of writing my own. I hope she will do the same for me.
Been plotting and scheming on this topic myself for a while now (she knows it's gonna happen, just not when/where, so i need to make sure it's a surprise when i actually ask her). Some ideas include: going on a camping trip out in the Hoosier or Shawnee National Forests (both conveniently within a few hrs drive) and finding the appropriately scenic spot, or the more traditional dinner at a fancy restaurant option (would be hard to convince her that i WASN'T up to something with that one tho...), and a few other ideas that have wandered thru my mind... (not gonna give away all my secrets cause i'm pretty sure she's smart enough to find this website on her own and recognize my handle). Suffice it to say that the plan i've pretty much settled on is based on the right location, more precisely, a location that has some very special significance to the two of us (as well as being considered a generally romantic setting in and of itself). My recommendation is to find that "special place" (mebbe it's where you first met, or had your first date, or where you first kissed, or something along those lines...) and take her back there to "pop the question". But regardless, best wishes and congratulations (i like to assume that she's gonna say yes in these cases so wishing someone luck seems kinda unnecessary...).

Hi, I took my wife out to look for jewelry for her upcoming birthday and when she was looking at opal rings I said let me see if this one fits then popped the question as you can see from the beginning of the post she said yes. It didn't hurt that we had gone out for awhile before she went away to college. I didn't think I would ever see her again so I was going out and ended up getting married. (settled actually) well it didn't work and I tried for 18 years!!! we got divorsed and I ran into my present wife (former girlfriend who went away to college) and we started to go out again and the rest is history. Stupid me I should have waited...... She did for 20 years!!! John
LAST EDITED ON 17-May-01 AT 02:18 AM (EST)[p]It hasn't been that long since I went through this. I had planned to take her to the fanciest resturant in the state and pop the question there. I had already made arrangements with the staff and had it all planned out. Then I thought to myself, "Self, why do you want to do this surrounded by a bunch of strangers?"
As chance would have it, I had just accepted my first full-time pastorate and the church where I had served as associate pastor was giving me a going away party. All of my family, and hers, and about 200 friends were there. When it came time for my speech, I asked her to join me, explained how I had saved up money for a ring before I popped the engine in my truck, and that several members of the church paid for a new engine so I didn't have to spend the ring money on it- then I popped the question.
Since it was already a party, I was able to arrange for a photographer and a videograper to catch all of the excitement. What we cherish most about it was that we were surrounded by people who loved us. That was special for us.
Don't know if that helped any, but it was nice to reminisce.
my best wishes to you and the future Mrs. Biggreen97,
Nate

True story. She knew it was coming just not when and where. I was racking my brain to do it right but just gave up on all the "normal ways". We were living together and I put the ring and a card asking her to marry me on our bed. I went out to cut the grass because we were having company the next day. She came home from work and had no idea what I did till she found it. Seems like a weird idea but she was so happy she ran out of the house laughing and crying at the same time. Almost knocked me over while weed eating. Definitly original but she is a low key girl so it worked out great. It still is great....
