I moved from California into Utah. I was out of work and I decided to move in with mom and dad. Well, then I decided to move to Salt Lake City. Soon after, I found a job making about 25 to 30 dollars an hour(on piecerate). Then the company shut down. I just met a guy that is going to school towards engineering and this son of a bitch makes 10 dollars an hour. I lost my job due to company cut backs and eventually the company closed. I was making good money in SLC. Here this outof country ******* comes in saying he wants to be an engineer for the Department of trasnportation and makes 10 dollars and hour, PART TIME! I found a job welding for 11 dollars an hour. What is wrong here? I put 10 to 12 hours a day so that some foreign son of a bitch can make more money than people who have actually been in the workforce longer than he has been in school. This is ridiculous! I understand education and I served my time learning how to be a very excellent welder. Maybe I'm in the wrong state. Maybe in the wrong field of work. I feel good about what I do. I drive a Ford Pickup truck because I feel we should support our country. There is no room for these sons a bitches here!

She's built a successful business for over 15 years and employs several "US natives." Watch what you say, you never know whose toes you're stepping on. People are recipients of the choices they make.
Also, read the posting guidelines linked on the posting form. Keep it clean if you want to stick around.
I doubt you can tell me everything in your house is made in america. Regardless, you should keep up in the news. The US is not outputing enough "White" engineers simply because not enough go down that path. What are high tech companies supposed to do? Shut down and get into welding? Now, not that I take personal offense to ignorant ravings, but I do mind it when some one comes out in the open and declares that the world owes them something, and that someone has more than them so they deserve more. This world would be a whole lot better off if the people who were out complaining about their lot in life got up and did something about it instead of pointing fingers and assigning blame for their own actions. Ken's right. People decide their own future. I'm mexican. Think I'm pissed at how the "school systems are trying to keep the latinos down." I'm not out saying I should get special treatment, or that an organization should need to hire me based on the fact that I'm some poor minority. I'm going to college. I'm making my future so that when some crazy person with a story to tell comes out and declares how they have it so rough cuz the world deals them a stacked deck, I can turn around and tell them how, from statistics, I wasn't even supposed to graduate high school, let alone get a degree in engineering. BTW, I'll bet there was more than one "foreigner" involved in making your truck, and I'm talking about the DESIGN step.
Also, My friend is one of those engieer student guys one year into college getting a job with SONY. Yeah, 19 years old, over $12 an hour, white.
Okay, think that's enough for now...

I live in Canada and feel very fortunate that I do. Both our countries were built on the backs of immigrants. Sure, we have chapters of white supremist groups here, but overall I think Canadians are a little more tolerant of race and religion. If I got my s**t in a knot every time I saw someone who has a great job, made more money than I do, and is obviously non-white or an immigrant, I would probably be spending more time bitching and moaning than I would enjoying life.
I spent twenty years in the Canadian army, travelled the world and saw different peoples, customs and societies. Then I went to college to get training in order to get a job that pays well, and in a field that I wanted. Now I work in the IT department at a college, a very good employer, and love my job. Education is the key to personal happiness and success, if your field or discipline doesn't compare to others as far as salary or perks go, perhaps you could have made a better decision. There is something to be said for job satisfaction, tho, if you love what you do then it isn't really a job then, is it?
Life is too short to spend time being envious or bitter, why not be happy for the person who has the good fortune, maybe next time there is some good luck going around, you could be the recipient. And as far as race, religion or color goes, all people deserve respect and civility until proven otherwise.
Fonz! AAYYYYY Man! Time for an attitude adjustment my friend. You chose to be a welder, and I'll bet that you are indeed a good one. Good welders are hard to find, so keep looking and you will find a good job making a competitive wage. But you gotta watch that attitude man, it'll cost you in the long run. Oh yeah, Don't cuss..makes people think you're stupid!

Real quick, try to remember that nobody in the United States is a "native." Just cuz you were born here doesn't mean you belong, any race or any color, and it shouldn't make a difference when competing for a job or trying to buy a home.
Also, When did we close the border? just cuz immigrants don't come through Ellis island anymore doesn't mean that they don't come or that they're not supposed to. If you've got problems with the government that's one thing, but don't blame it on immigrating people.

I've met a lot of people who have a negative attitude and what does it get them? It sure doesn't help them out. Look at your problem and use your energy to solve it, not complain about it. A good welder is always in demand. A worker with a positve attitude is priceless.
I've worked with people from other countries working here and I've worked with some who call themselves American by birth. If I had a choice, I wouldn't hesitate working again with the former. A lot of non-Americans have something I call True Grit.
the problem i have with the system, is that it takes away from those who are willing to do for themselfs and give to the bums that wont work.i dont care what race you are or your back ground.
if you treat me with respect i treat youu the same way.i have a real problem with workin my tail off just to keep my family feed.and then i see some one on welfare driving a nicer car, truck
and living better than i do.and i support myself and 4 kids and a wife.as for welders i used to work in that field and its all about supply and demand, find ya a career that needs help all time and you wont ever be out of work and never have a lay off and demand top pay.like trucking for example, thats what i do for a living and i have never had a problem finding work.and i can live anywhere i want and still find it.anytime of the year.and i make $1200 a week on the average.thats bring home money, you know.the money i put in the bank.so dont get mad at someone else from a different country trying to achieve the same thing you are. thats what this country is all about.so we should all get along and work together as a team.
Yes the welfare system sucks! Get paid to sit on your ##### and breed like a bunch of rabbits. The truth is the system itself isn't corrupt but more to the point, the people who use and abuse are corrupt. I agree with ya ford4604x4 when you are disgusted with the system as it is. I don't like the idea of the gov taking my money to give to some shmuck who doesnt' want to work and want's to sit on his ##### and do nothing(except maybe crime). Taxes are a pain in anyone's ##### who wants to succeed in life and make copious amounts of money. On to a less sensitive subject! I am sure my point of view has been construed by media hype on this subject. I too feel frustrated with my job. I have a Computer Science degree, paid for college myself and busted my butt too! I have been in the work force for 3 years and haven't received any raise from the two companies I have worked for. Always some excuse is given as to why the company can't afford it. Basically the big boss wants his/her raise and umpteen thousand dollar bonus. Dad gummit now I am getting worked up and pissed off at this nation for its screwy ways. Has anyone here heard of the Death Tax! Hell now when you die, the gov gets approximately 60% of your belongings and not your relatives. Where in the hell does the gov get off on doing this. Then you have to read between the lines and notice its humans doing this to humans. Its amazing how cruel we can be to one another when we do so in a nonpersonal way.

Some advice from an oldtimer. Don't worry about what someone else is doing, or makes, or where he's from. A good welder is valuable to have in any town. Maybe you're just going about things the wrong way. Get you a good F350, put a welding machine on it, get your business license, print up some business cards, and you'll be happy. Maybe that engineering fella you're peeved at will end up as one of your customers.
Those who try to get ahead and keep the faith will perservere. I was also push from a high paying job in the mid '80's, repalced by two less skilled workers to do what I did for the same price. Stood in line for food stamps and was told to sell my car and my house first then maybe I could get the stamps. I said screw this and made up my mind to get into a career that was recession proof and pretty mush lay off proof and work my tail off to make an honest day's wages. And I do! I now make more than I did then and I am proud of it.
You guys are right. I did choose to become a welder. I have had my education. Its time to continue on with some more education. I'll see you guys in California.
