Guys, come on...

We've all known people such as this...

Ya can't just make him get fired for something like that...what about his situation? Maybe he's depending on his job to make ends meet. Getting him fired isn't the right thing to do. Not all of us can get fired from a job and be ok.

Is there anything in the employee handbook about this?

And don't forget the people that have a body odor due to a biological disorder.

Nothing can help them.

There is a medical name for it, but I don't know what it's called.

There was a grocery store where I lived, when this particular individual would buy his groceries, the store manager would follow him with a can of air freshener; up and down the isles, spraying.

He smelled that bad. He apologized to the manager and told him it was a chemical inbalance.

The mananger understood.

If his lack of hygeine is a problem and the boss doesn't take measures to correct it, then the boss is guilty of allowing a hostile work environment and may be in violation of a few laws. You may want to check with an attorney for legal remedies. I know this sounds extreme but it may be your only option.

GotLift, thanks for the good chuckle. That is too painfully funny. I could just see you two up on the ladder. And the description...."a bag full of ****"....Too Funny. I've never heard that one before. Still laughing as I type this.

And I agree with WildOneCraig; pool a buck from everybody, go to the Dollar Store and get the dude some hygiene products and gum/mints. Or you could always have it mailed to his home or workplace, anonymously.

Is there any chance the guy likes women and could use a steady girl?
Nothing like a girlfriend, they make you stay clean and presentable.

Do you know any single ladies to send on a date with Bill?

Given the description of this guy, I don't know if the shop could afford the girl. It would probably be cheaper to buy a personnal hygein package with a note signed, "Roses are Red, Violets are blue....and you don't smell like either of the two!" But that's just me

Actually man, you would be so surprised, most places will find, or make up a reason to fire you if they want, and usually they can somehow justify it.

Actually, in many states YOU CAN fire someone for no reason. I know for a fact that both Ohio and Indiana are "at will" states. You can be hired and fired "at will". The only way you would have a case is if you could PROVE you were a minority, and that was the sole reason for you being fired.

I have a novel idea, treat the man like a friend. Tell him that, as a friend, you are compelled to tell him what you and your co-workers feel about his hygiene. If he fails to respond, then you can take other measures knowing that you did the right thing. Sometimes a pat on the back is better than a knife in the back.

I think you guys are right, Im gonn ahave to tell him about the personal hygiene issue.
He also has a wife (not actually married but i bug him about that) And well, from what ive seen, and tried to avoid seeing, she isnt in much better shape than him. (shes also bigger than him)
Yeah thats the pukey guy i was lookin for.
Everyday one of us run sup to tim hortons and buys everyone a coffee, Bill doesnt, and yet expects us to buy him one too, and evryone does, cause they feel bad. Ask him when hes going to buy coffee, he says "i dont have an y money man". Well, he makes the same as us and i know i have more bills than he does...so i dont get it.
And yeah Mustang, getting someone fire is a pretty low thing to do, i dont want to have to do that.

Im gonna tell my boss to talk to him, and if he doesnt im going to, enoughs enough.

If everyone feels the same you should all approach your boss. This way you don't look like the bad guy. At the very least you could tell your boss that you will not work with him and to arrange it so that you don't have to.

Yup Thats what I will do.
I did tell him, and the sales order desk guy that I will NOT go on installs with him. But, It doesnt always work out that way, unfortunatly. It does seem they do try to send me with the other guy.
BAsically right now theres two 'lead hands' me and paul. And the two other guys 'helpers' 'swampers' whichever, so me and paul never get to go with each other.
