i got a cheap obd2 on sale at advance or autozone.. can't remember which. cheap is a relative term but i thought the 60$ was worth it not having to count the flashes like the old scanner. if it's a one time thing just drive to the parts store and they'll let you borrow theirs. i bought one cuz i wanted to have my own
my obd2 scanner for my '96 plugs under the dash... my old scanner for my 1990 f150 has a diffferent plug that plugs plugs under the hood and is a pain in the *** counting all those flashes. do a search to find out how, but i don't think you even need the scanner for the older vehicles. just a test light
