Will the dipstick from a '74 F250 Camper Special (the truck in question) FE style c-6 work fine with a c-6 for a 460cid. Both of these are truck transmissions. I ask because we have swapped motors and trannys and used the stick from the last tranny. Alos, there is a little dent so to speak where the stick mount from the bell housing is welded to it. Is that right or is that bent. This is the exact spot where the mount is welded to the stick, the mount itself is pushed in not even an 1/8 of an inch or so. Also, does anyone have an opinion of aftermarket rebuilt trannys? I am thinking of going with Jasper since we don't have any factory 460 trucks or for that matter 351/400M trucks with good trannys to start with. Also most yards around here that might have that tranny want $$$ for them. So why not just buy rebuilt with a warranty to start with right? I would assume that even if the tranny itself is not from a truck (from Jasper let's say), that they put the correct number of clutch packs or truck bands to make it a truck tranny right? I have a LTD tranny in it now and i've heard that 1st and 2nd have lower ratios in a truck as well as more clutch packs to handle towing. I would figure that the input and output shafts, as well as valve bodies are all the same on C-6's? Thanks for the info.......by the way, thanks to all of you that write back because there seems to be too many "well i've heard" information around my area to get the truth about these things. Also, when you are swapping a 360 truck to a 460, and nothing seems to be the same, any info is helpful. Ok.....i've asked to much but the crossmemeber below where the tranny and motor bolt together (used one from a '76 360 4spd F350) and the shifter linkage from the column is all the same between a 360 and 460 right?..........Thanks to all again!!!!
