Off Road Stereo Question

I have an 89 full size Bronco. I currently have an Alpine stereo with a cd player in it. The CD works great and never skips when off road. The problem is that it does not play mp3. I need to upgrade but I am looking for one that can play without skipping while I drive off road. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would like to keep the price under $250.

Why not get another Alpine? If you're having good luck with one, just get an upgraded model. I went to Crutchfield's site and Alpine has 3 different mp3/cd players under $200.

I am just asking for additional opinions. I will probably stay with the Alpine.

I'm a huge fan of Pioneer HU's. I do quite a bit of wheeling in my truck and my cd player (AVIC-N1) rarely skips, if ever. I try not to play anything in the unit anymore though when I'm wheeling. I'm not sure if damage can be done to the laser from the jarring etc. felt when wheeling so I decided to avoid any unnecessary damage. That's when the XM comes in real handy. I remember back in the day when some cd players had a 3 second memory in them so when it did skip, the music wouldn't be interrupted. I believe JVC had some of those but am not sure. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Alpines and Pioneer's both work well in rough applications. One thing to keep a look out for is to get one that has multiple beams. Some units use a single beam for tracking and playing where others use one beam for playing and 1 or more separate beams for tracking. The multiple beams seem to keep the tracking better in a rough use situation.

I have to hit some pretty rough road at high speeds to make my Pioneer skip.
