I have an 06 Lariat Super Crew. While driving home from work today I experienced a problem with the 6 disc cd changer. I was attempting to skip from cd slot 3 to cd slot 4. I did not realize that the slot was actually empty. The changer made a bit of a squeeling / grinding noise and then the display stated " BAD CD ". I tried to skip over to slot 1 and then the changer spit out the cd from slot 1. After that, the system cycled and now I have this display " CD Error ". I have powered off the unit and tried again, same issue. I have turned off the ignition, opened the drivers door ( to completely shut off the power ) and then restarted, same display " CD Error ". I can not shuffle from 1 slot to another, I can not play any of the slots or load any of the open slots. Every time I press the load / eject button, I get the error message. Every time I press the CD button, I get the error message.
Squealing/grinding noise, I take it that you were not playing current top 40 so the sound was unusual? Ok I had my laugh. It sounds as if the changer is jammed and will need to be removed and disassembled to extract the jammed disk. Are you still with in your warranty period? If yes the answer is simple. Let the dealer fix it. If not It may be time to learn how your disk changer is built.
Thanks guys, for some reason I was able to get it going again. Truck sat overnight and when I started it up I heard it cycling. I pressed the eject button and slot 1 right away. The disc ejected and I just kept going, one disc at a time. Then I installed each one back in and everything is working fine. Must have just cycled incorrectly, jammed, and then recycled again and cleared it.
I have the same problem with mine every so often. Here's what I do for the quick fix... pull the trim off, reach my hand up behind the radio and disconnect the harness. Count to 3 and plug it back in. Works fine after that. It's becoming annoying enough that I'm saving my pennies to just replace the thing.
