exhaust brake switch mount

I am curious to see how others have mounted their exhaust brake switch.

I want to post some pictures of how mine is mounted (temporarily), but this forum won't let me post attachments. I have been really busy and was wondering if anyone makes/sells a permanent mount for the switch. The zip ties take away from the fit & finish of an otherwise well done, completed project.

anyone have pictures of their switch location?
anyone know how I can post mine?

Thanks.

Thumbs up OK, added the pics to my gallery!

OK, I added the pics to my gallery! Check them out. Anyone have a good way of mounting a push/pull switch like this. I really like having it mounted to the gearshift - very convenient.

Why don't you use a toggle mounted in the dash rather than a push pull? Mines between the steering wheel and the light switch in the lower plastic panel 97 F250 4x4

the push/pull on the gearshift is soooo easy to use. Sort of like shifting a 2-speed rear end, it's just natural.
I turn it on & off frequently depending on gear, grade, load, etc. I had thought of using a dimmer switch so I could have variable control of the exhaust brake (but didn't).

Underp I recommend putting a 10ohm ballast resister inline with the solinoid. Rather than repeat it all here is the thread that I explained how I did it.
I used this one:

As far as your mounting point for your switch, I like it. I can't think of anything that would look good to cover them up that wouldn't make the shift handle look worse than before.

That's exactly what I thought of when I looked at you pics.

Attach the switch to a small piece of angle iron, weld the angle onto the shifter handle, tape up the leads and paint it all black.....most people probably wouldn't even notice it was there.

Suggestion...Make bracket to mount switch as it should be...Attach to shift clever with insulated/cushioned clamps. 360° clamps with rubber for cushion and the one clamping bolt. Used a lot in racing industry. Come in multiple sizes. Rubber is usually black so it would blend in with column. Also, use black tubing for wires. Results would be a Exhaust brake switch that will not be so visible. I do like the position. It is a nautral position and acessable while also being able to shift when needed. I don't like the dash position...if you tow and have a dash mounted controller, think about how cumbersome it is to access the trailer brake switch in a hurry, ie when the trailer wants to wander too much.

thanks for all the replies. I thought I had seen someone (on this forum) who had built/bought a 2-peice aluminum mounting bracket that fits the 6 speed stick. If so, I wanted to use that and mount the switch to it.
Last night I came up with the idea to use half of a shaft collar and a plate of aluminum, with the switch sandwiched in-between. We'll see how it looks/works when I get it put together. Still open to more/new ideas - anything to make things better.

Whats wrong with the one from Summit? Put a toggle on the dash (kills all power) and the micro switch slides over the shifter for momentary on-off.

[/img]Here is a pic. Where the wires are stuffed up in the right side is where it slides over the shifter (remove shifter ****). Then run the wires down the shifter and up to your main switch on the dash.

How would you reattach the shifter **** after you pry it off? Glue? RTV?

What's the best way to remove the **** without messing it up with teeth marks from the pliers etc.?

Use a wrench close to the diameter of the shifter, put it under the **** and tap it with a dead blow. Epoxy it back on. Or, that switch will come apart, remove the rubber strap and zip tie it or use black tape and you don't have to remove the ****.

Check your local truck stops,Someone makes a zippered cover\boot for the shifter, they have assorted colors too.I'm thinking Barjan Shifter boot, but not sure. Just slips over the shifter then you zip it up.They work great for covering wires, air hoses and etc. All My big trucks have them,Drivers get them at the Flying J I think?, they make them in different sizes long and short.
