OK, this didn't go as I had planned. I had wanted to use half of the shaft collar below the shifter, then the shifter, then the switch, then the aluminum plate to complete the sandwich. It turned out that I needed the plate thickness to shim the switch far enough away from the shifter to allow the switch to function. I could use 1 more piece of aluminum to 'finish' the sandwich, but this thing is getting bulky. I was trying to make it more discreet - now it sticks out like a sore thumb
I am planning on painting the whole mess black when complete, but want it to look better than this - any ideas?
Anyone have a picture of a splitter? I could try their approach. Thanks.
I have a fog light kit that I bought for back up lights. The kit came with a little switch that toggles on and off, (via momentary switch that toggles the output on and off, i.e. first push, output latches high, second push, ouptput latches low) it is maybe 1/2 wide or smaller. If you are interested in something like this let me know, I can go measure it for ya.
EDIT: Okay I went and measured it and actually took some pictures, it is probably bigger than that of what you are looking for. Inside of the switch has a two LEDs RED and GREEN, of which correspond with the output but only light up when power is supplied to the switch. Anyway, picture is in my galler under the Misc Pics. Measurement is in inches.
I am trying to make this push/pull switch work because I really like the functionality of it. The problem is I can't seem to mount it in a way that looks good (trying to make it inconspicuous - whatever, trying to make it less obvious).
I see now, reminds of the Range and OD selecton on a set of Road Ranger gears in a few Trucks I used to drive on the farm. Have you looked into some of the truck shops (semi trucks anyway) to see if they have some type of a mount that is inconspicous. I like the push pull switch though, I wonder if they make something similar that the overall size is smaller as well.
underP2, Your system is similar to what I did. I followed kwiks schematics only I went to an automotive diesel electric supply house and bought a two speed axle switch. I found a piece of 3/4" alum. angle to which I attached a cross-bar to the end. Looks sort of like a TEE. Two hose clamps keep the angle attached to my stick about two inches down from the ball on the end.The TEE is just below my fingers while driving and on one side of the tee is a button for my air horn and the other side is the big red button to push/pull for the exhaust brake.
I would like to post pics but cannot figure out how.

I can't post pics either. If this link doesn't work, I'll add the pic to my gallery. The 2-speed axle switch looks like it will work a lot better than the heavy duty push/pull switch I have. The 2-speed switch is offset, which solves the problem of shimming it enough so you can actually pull the big red button.
underp2, Mine is a different brand. I forget who makes it but it is a 2 pole single throw switch. with three wires coming from it. I utilized only the N.O. side of the switch. I don't see why yours would not work.
Oh, by the way I was able to see your pic of the switch.
yeah, but those are the pics I posted earlier. The one I was trying to post was of a 2-speed axle switch, and doesn't work because it is a *.bmp file. I think it is similar to the switch you describe. I will probably order it and disconnect mine.
Thinking about getting a gearvendors overdrive now after reading some other posts. Have to pay down some vet bills and work some weekends to make that happen.
OK, the new switch is in & working. Ignore the brand on the side. This is by far the best operating switch and the cleanest install yet. What do you guys think?
