Going to go look for some new tires tomorrow for my 1997 Expd 2x2. The tires I have on there now are P245/75R16 but ford recommends P255/70R16. I am going to go some Goodyear but dont know what kind. Should I go with the Wrangler RT/S or another kind? http://www.goodyeartires.com/goodyea...=Light%20Truck
I sure hope you didn't get the wranglers. The stock tires are horrible. The sidewall on those things are so loose they are like a bike tire. I don't know what kind of driving you do, but the sway on our expys is bad enough put those wranglers on and it compounds it. I put on some 285/ 70/ 17 bfg at with the heavy side wall @ 65 psi. Now my daughter doesn't get sea sick it the back. I will next upgrade to the bilsteins, and from what I hear it I won't regret those either.
Is this the point where all the Revo owners chime in and plug that tire? It is!!!. See if you can get Bridgestone Dueler Revo's in the size you need or any of the optional sizes available for your Expy. Check out some tire ratings and see what the populace likes - cause it's not going to be Goodyear Wranglers. Try tirerack.com unless that violates some link rule or they're not an FTE sponser. They have a ratings chart so you can compare various models.
Michlins, B F Goodrich, Bridgestone seems to be the tires people rave about in this forum. I have a set of goodyears and those tires wear quickly. At the time I was doing mostly highway driving.
I will second the Bridgestone Dueler Revo's. They are my second set of Dueler's that I've had on my 97 Expy. First set lasted 68k miles and still had quite a bit of tread left. I'm running 265/75/16's on my stock 2wd 97 Expy. Great traction in wet weather. We don't get much snow or ice here so I can't comment on that. Good luck.
I just bought a set of 265/70 R17 Mickey Thompson Baja Radial MTX's and they go on the truck a week from Tuesday. I'll let you know on the verdict. Cheaper than the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's too.
Hurry up and cancel that order. I've never driven on those tires but I with a load range of B I can only assume you will be disappointed unless of course you liked the goodyear wranglers. http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/truck.html
I am sure the Mickeys would be great on a Ranger or mid size Toyota or Nissan but our Expys weigh to much for a flimsy sidewall. I can't believe Ford put the wranglers on to begin with.
