Whats a good AMERICAN made off road tire?

When my highboy gets done with my restoration (meaning paint color change and new interior), im going to lift it 2 inches or so. I really like the 35" Goodyear duratrac's. They are kinda pricey though even with my Discount Tire Employee discount. Whats a good off road tire that will get ok gas MPG on the street and wont wear down to nothing quickley?

I like these two goodyears below but open for suggestions.

Wrangler DuraTrac | Goodyear Tires

Wrangler MT/R(P) with Kevlar | Goodyear Tires

The new Cooper ST/Max just came out to replace the ATR's. Great tire.

I'd put a Cooper on it before I ever even thought about a Goodyear. Scratch that, I would NEVER run a goodyear tire. I've had 3 sets of them on various cars and trucks and none of them have lasted more than 25k. Overpriced, underperforming tires IMHO.

You might look into treadwright re-treads. I've put ~10,000 on my set and couldn't be happier with them. I also have yet to hear any bad reviews on them.

Retread are good for the rear duals but I would never run them on the front we are having a hard time with retreads period cause the rubber is ****ty for them money and time your best bet is 4 new tires. Plus if your tires are 7 years or older you can retread them.

Take a gander at the sidewall of those Cooper tires, to see where they are made. Cooper's are made in China, United Kingdom, US of A and etc.

Just like NumberDummy states above, just because you're buying a tire from a good 'ol American tire company, doesn't mean it's made here. The first two letters of the DOT code tell you what plant they are made in. Most tire dealers have these directories with the plant codes. Even good ol Goodyear's are made in USA, China, Poland, India, etc. I run Toyo MT's on my trucks. Great tires and many of them are made in Toyo's White, Georgia plant. On the second set on my wifes 6.0 Excursion, first set went 55,000 miles easy with 4-5/32 still remaining.

Personally I wouldn't worry to much about where there made but rather focus on getting tires from a good company. Bridgestone is another good brand. I like that no one said anything about the michellens. Soft ride + soft side walls = cheapos. The nitto's are coming around to be a good tire. My suggestion to my customers that are on the fence is just do some research and read costumer reviews for needs wants and practicality. Good luck.

I second the recommendation for Toyo Open Country MTs.

I'm not sure where they are made, but in my case they replaced a set of American-made Parnelli Jones Dirt Grip tires.

The Toyos are vastly superior to the Dirt Grips in all categories. They are great. Unfortunately they are on the pricey side...

Nitto Terra Grapplers are an awesome tire for street and mild to moderate off road. I had the 10 ply Terras on my Titan and LOVED them. Quiet on the road and did everything I asked them to do off road. The 10 plys did ride a little rough, and they needed to be aired up to 50PSI minimum for street driving, but they wear like iron, are hard to hydroplane, and go through snow and mud like it was dry pavement.

As long as you keep them properly inflated, stay within their weight ratings, and give them a once over every now and then you'll be fine. With all of the DOT regulations nowadays, retreads would be banned altogether if they were unsafe. Commence flaming.
