I had a 3" with high-flow cat from Midas, and it sounded great! Wasn't too loud at all, and made great power. I wouldn't recomend Midas though. I'd spend the same, or slightly more for a Bassanni system. I spent about $600 for the headers, back and the system rusted off in 2 1/2 years.
I'd run 2.5" duals, but depending on what you want out of them, If you want loud poping go with 2-2.5" piping. If you just want a deep agressive tone the 3" would work fine.
There is a point when there is too big of a pipe and you will loose performace, but You'd be ok with 3 I guess.
Go to a local muffler or exhaust shop to get it done, I wouldn't trust Midas or anyother place like that. They usually do better work for cheaper.
Well, mines not a Bronco, but it has the 5.0 in it. I ran true dual 2.25 straight pipe. LOUD. Too much crackling though. I then made it single 3" straight pipe. A bit deeper, but still crackle. Finally, i added a 3"IN/OUT 10Series Flowmaster with a 3" turndown. VERY deep..no crackle at all.
duals work best for hi horspower motors that need to get the exhaust out faster.
a single exhaust with a hi flow cat and 3" pipe with any choice of muffler will perform better and help keep the torque down low in the rpm range were we need it. most shops will do exhaust like ive mentioned for under $300 bucks depending on price of cat.

i need the torque in the low range.would a single 3 inch or a single 2.5 inch pipe be better? i have the 351M engine with 4 speed.
I have a 3 inch single exhaust on my 302. From the first cat(which is gutted out) to the tip is 3 inches. The second cat was replaced with a catco high flow cat. I have a dual chamber flowmaster to finish it off. I am very pleased with the sound, it is not too loud but when I get my foot into it people look. Besides my new engine, the exhaust has been the best mod for me so far. It cost around $350 to have done.
i would go 3" for sure. the 351m series were really restricted. they can be a decent runner with aluminum intake, 4brrl carb and headers. head work also would make a huge difference but might be out of your budget
If you put 2.25-2.5" duals, they perform almost the same as a 3" single exhaust, but if you go with a single exhaust, go with 3" for the single pipe for sure, and 2.5 would be fine far the pipes until they met, then go with 3" pipe the rest of the way out.
Or you could do a y pipe, get you the look of duals.
