argh!? gotta vent
a little background before i tell my story. i work with backup battery systems so i work with like big car batteries and stuff.
anyways today we were changing out some bad batteries and installing new ones. after we changed out the batteries we took some measurements (voltage and resistance) onto this special machine. anyways the guy i was working with asked me to upload the information onto his laptop. so i go over turn on his laptop and ask him where his cable was to connect everything up. he replies by asking "don't you carry a cable with you?" i was like "yea but i don't have my computer with me". he walks over to me and was like i'm going to be like what (put my 2 bosses names in here) boss 1 and boss 2 would say. then he goes on by saying "why the h*** don't you have your laptop with you, you know we should have them with us at all these jobs" BLAH BLAH BLAH. now to say the least, i'm not exactly the type of person that needs a "chewing out" in order to get a point of someone. getting chewed out only 1. makes me mad 2. makes me EXTREMELY mad and usually ticked off the rest of the day 3. its one thing to get chewed out by your boss, but when someone who really has no authority goes off on you GRRRR
. ANYWAYS. he continued to say "what if my laptop wasn't working and we needed your computer" i'm thinking this whole time. geez all i asked for is your cable, and besides you asked me to upload it to YOUR laptop not mine, and your laptop is working FINE so what's the big fuss about? anyways i remained silent because i doubt i could've said any of that without using profanity. so i upload all the stuff and EVERYTHING works out fine. ABSOLUTELY no harm done. now i realize i PROBABLY should've had my laptop with me, but i actually didn't remember getting told about taking any type of readings or anything that requires a computer. infact i was kinda shocked to see that we had the machines with us to take the voltage and resistance measurements. now this guy i worked with was like "yea don't you remember when boss #2 told us this morning, you would've heard that if you were listening". anyways im freaking ticked at the moment and really don't say much to him the rest of the job. infact i totally avoided having lunch with him and instead drove through to get lunch on the way back to our office.now this guy who gave me the tongue lashing, has had this type of attitude similar to that in the past but nothing quite this bad. i've been told by boss#2 to let him know if i ever have any problems with this co-worker because "he's not your boss and you don't have to answer to him". my thing is, i'm not really the type of employee or just person that complains about much. i'm not a big fan of "whiners" and i do my best to hold my whining unless its something really bad.
later in the day we were back in the office and i guess boss#1 told him to untangle these cables and for me to help. i was already busy doing something else VERY profitable to our company. so this my co-worker calls me over and was like "help me with untangling these cables". i actually complained a little because i untangled twice those amount a few days ago with NO help and totally me going the extra mile. then my co worker was like "i could've told you to untangle them all by yourself but i offered to help". i responded by saying "well didn't boss #1 tell us BOTH to do this". anyways i hope you can get this. i have a co-worker that has been around for quite a long while for this company and i'm still the newer guy. but geez, this guy just has a freaking attitude to me at times and it REALLY gets under my skin.
well work gets done and here's the kicker. i'm going home and i have quite a drive and take mainly interestate the whole way. i'm driving in the fast interestate lane doing about 75 in a 70. so i'm flowing with the faster traffic and yes speeding a little but not a whole lot. so i'm driving along my merrily way and all the sudden this girl in this little ricer comes speeding up behind me and gets like 2 feet off of my back bumper. then she WHIPS her car around me and gets in front of me and then motions that i need to get in the other lane twice. C'MON I WAS ALREADY SPEEDING, DO YOU REALLY EXPECT ME TO BE GOING 90 DOWN THE WHOLE WAY? so i get pretty ticked off probably cause the rest of the day. so i give my car some gas and start to follow her. when she shifted lanes i shifted lanes. i followed her until she exited off the ramp. at one point we were going about 95 mph so she was NOT going slow at all. anyways i pass her as she'z getting off the ramp and threw my arms up as to say "what was that all about punk".
anwyays that was my cruddy junky day to say the least. i really felt like slamming on my breaks and making her rear end me on the interstate. SHE would get the ticket for that right? i mean from what i understand if you rear end anyone you will get the ticket cause you were following TOO close. anyways thanks for reading my novel on my bad wednesday. hopefully it'll be better tommorow.
to your coworker...if you were doing sumthing profitable to the company and he wants you to take off time of what your job is to untangle some bs wires he cand o himself...id told him to f-off
to ricer...slam on yur brakes she would have been at fault...
The day might of been different if you had brought your own laptop.
I deal with cranky customers all day over the phone, believe me more than once a day I really want to choke the life out of someone.
A motto to live by : if it doesn't change the taste of an ice cold beer, why worry about it. mho
Keep your good attitude and do your darndest not to let this co-worker drag you into his challenges. Taking the frustrations of your day onto the highway is scary. Give some thought as to how you can be more "mellow" on your way home. If the young lady in the Rice Rocket wishes to sling shot herself into oblivion or cause accidents let it not involve you.
Good Luck

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Tomorrow is Friday. End of the work-week. (For most.) Fridays are ALWAYS good.
Some people think that longevity means RHIP (Rank Has It's Privileges).
This MIGHT be that guy's problem.
Just remember. . . "The sun don't shine up one dog's heinie every day of the week." (Loosely translated - "What goes around - comes around.")
If some one hits you from behind, they may not necessarily be charged. Just remember, there were other cars on the road. One of those drivers MIGHT think that the girl was 'attractive' (or whatever) and MAY testify to the police that YOU were the aggressive one. YOU could be charged (especially if you are in the Peoples Republik of Maryland) with 'Aggressive Driving' or 'Road Rage.'
If someone wants to go around you so badly, let 'em. Just remember, "Drive like H _ _ _. You'll get there."
If you mess up. . . that shows that you are actually doing something. You forgot your laptop. Big deal. Did everyone go home at the end of your shift?
Did anyone have an on-the-job accident? Nah.
That is what's important.
I truly hope that Friday is a better day for you. Saturday is right around the corner, too.
Take care.
WHY DIDN'T HE HAVE ALL THE EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR THE JOB?
IF THE BOSS ALLEGEDLY MENTIONED IT IN THE MORNING, IS NOT YOUR ASSociate equally at fault?
good thing tomorrow is friday!!!
sorry for yelling at the start
How you are going to get through to him to get of you're A@@ I don't know.
Being an employer myself, I would rather have an employee who is mature, responsible, and does not need constant supervision. I really appreciate the guys I have that I don't have to worry about. I have enough to do without dealing with little power squabbles amongst my employees. Seniority does not mean squat in my company. If you can't do the job and do it well you have a shaky future with us. And that includes getting along with your fellow employees.
Looking at it from your bosses point of view, he may be concerned about losing money by having this guy pull a power trip trying to make you do something he could do himself while you could be doing something else. He probably is also concerned about you getting fed up and quitting and he loses a good employee. I don't think he has looked at it from a point of view that you are a whiner. He is looking at it from the point of view of how it affects his business and bottom line. If he is a good boss he won't put up with B.S. He sounds like he is already aware of this guy's personality traits. He probably has had complaints about this before.
Maybe you can get the point across to him without seeming like a whiner.
At any rate, don't let this guy get under your skin. Let it roll off. It ain't worth it.
Talk to your boss about it.
