Question Will 38.5's fit?

I'm looking to lift my 02 f350 SRW PSD. I am going to go with a 8 1/2" spring lift. I was just wondering if I will be able to fit 38.5/16/16.5 TSL's.If not what is the biggest tire I can fit. If yes what kind of b/s am I going to need? Thanks for any help. Also post any pics if you have them.

If you are gonna offroad it. Stick to 38/14.5/16. The ykey is the right backspacing on you wheels. Too wide and you will be hitting the leaf springs.

So what would be a good b/s to go with? Also with the 7.3 which gears should I go with to keep it like factory?

Any more than 4.25 with that wide of a tire will probably hit the springs. You're gonna need at least a 16 x 12 rim for that tire. The best thing to do is go to a tire shop and have them measure to be exact. I say this because each truck is a little different and some folks can get away with a little more than others with whels and tire combo's

To figure out what gear you need to get back to stock performance use this:

(New Tire Size / Old Tire Size) x Current Gear Ratio = Gears You Need

Example

(38 / 32.5) x 3.73 = New Gears

(1.169) x 3.73 = 4.36 (4.30's would be closest, but I would go to 4.56 to take into acount the added weight of the tires, not just the size)

The 32.5 that I used is approx the stock SD tire size with 265/75/16 tires.

Thanks for your help. I am going to go with some 16.5x9.75 and 38/12.50 just so that when I off road I don't have to worry about anything.

That should be a good setup, shouldn't have any issues there. Post some pics when you get 'em.

38's look good on 8" lift.

Im running an 8" lift w/ 38.5x15.50x16.5 and have never had a problem rubbing. In fact a good friend of mine is running 39's on his 8" lift but only gets away with it since he is running a 12" wide rim.

How wide of a rim do you have with the 38.s and what backspacing? I was thinking also I am getting an all spring lift would the be any problem with going with some 2" lift shackles up front and another 2" block(or whatever is needed to make it level) would there be any problem with that?

You can do the spring hangers too, but most lifts already come setup to level the truck. If it's an 8" lift, the back will most likely be 6 - 7 inches. Just check this before you order the shackles and end up with the pre-runner look.

Like I said earlier, check it out before hand because each truck is different in what it will fit. It depends on the cab, engine, and suspension configuration to determine what and how much you can fit. A little homework before hand can save some bucks before you do the work.

Yea thats why I am doing all my homework now. I plan on doing in like 2 months. But I want to make sure I look at all my options so I don't end up with something I don't like.

Mine for example. They say 37's will fit on a 6" lift, but I had to do some trimming and move my bumper a little for the 36's. I went 1" under the max just to be safe with it. I hate surprises. Plus if you want to wheel it and you have the max that fill fit and you have any real articulation, you're probably gonna hit. Don't forget too, that these trucks are heavy. The wider the tire you put on, the more stress that you put on the steering components.

Just my .02 on that.
