Brake/rotor problems

Recently I have noticed that my truck is pulling to the right, sometimes harder than others. Also, under heavy braking the whole front of my truck shudders almost to an extent it scares me. Is this a problem with a warped rotor or is there something else going on? I appreciate anything you guys can tell me.

Sounds like warped rotor. Had same problem turned rotors and was fine for 20000 miles then back again. So changed out to Power Slots only had them on for about 1000 miles but sure work good so far.
Good luck

They were warped earlier this summer, but the shuddering wasn't as bad. Powerslots are what I plan on getting to try and keep this from happening again. At least not every 10-20,000 miles. These trucks sure are heavy up front, and I guess that creates a lot more heat in those front rotors. Thanks for the input! Greatly appreciated.

You might also want to try Performance Plus Brakes they offer a drilled and slotted rotor they guaranty for life against warpage and cracks. The only reason I didn't get em was I had already ordered the PS and didn't wait for tier reply. Sure hope these PS work out $500 for brakes every 20000 miles is a little steep. Think they quoted 236 an axal plus 85 for pads. No shipping or Tax.

Thanks for the referal LPR. That's a lot cheaper than what a guy back home quoted me for factory rotors. $180 a rotor is insane in my opnion. BTW... Did you install them yourself? If so how hard was it? What tools? Just curious. Thanks again

Yeah like I said I bought to quick and put on Power slots. Easy Job. Just remove wheels, remove calibers, pull rotors off and reverse. Just make sure to replace the pads also. Just standard hand tools. Think it was a 18 or 19 MM for calipers and big hammer to break rust from rotors, C clamp to depress piston. Just standard brake job.
Like I said to do it all over again would go with the slotted ones with no crack or warping warranty. I got the PS with pads all 4 wheels for like 520 from 4 wheel parts warehouse.
You said how much for stockers???? $180 each. Man is that guy buying them at the dealership and marking them up.
Anyway good luck and if you have any problems write back.
Oh and mine cost extra cause my truck is early 99 with 95mm rotors they only made them from start up of 99 line till march 15, 1999. so they aren't very common.

I really appreciate your help LPR. Hopefully I can get this fixed in the next couple of weeks or so. Luckily I only have to drive a couple of mile to school everyday and the heavy braking is rare.

Hey good Luck. If you need any more help just give a yell.
How was the weather down your way with the hurricane? No damage I hope. Bet we see a lot of trucks being sold at auction by insurance companies and having dealers turn around and try to sell them as used in good shape.

We just got a lot of rain and wind here. A lot of toronado sirens but nothing major. I'm was pretty far east of it. The main problem here is that construction costs are starting to skyrocket due to most of the supplies around here are being sent to the midwest to aid in the rebuild. Wouldn't surprise me to see dealerships pull something like that, that's for sure. Anything to make a buck.

Flinno18,

Been there and done that, on 4 dfifferent SD's so far. I got the Power Slots and hawk pads and boom no shudder, and lots more braking when you need it in an emergency too! In fact I was so impressed we are now a warehouse for Power Slot and Hawk. Give us a call on prices I am sure we can help you out and save you some money on them.

Mark,
After you put the PS on did the problem reacure after a few thousand miles and did that eliminate the warping? Also did you do all 4 wheels or just fronts? Thanks

No problems to date with 5000 new miles on the new Power Solts and Hawks. I only did front rotors and both front and rear pads, my rear rotors were in excellent shape.

Mark,
Thanks for the offer. I will give you a call once I have gotten some cash rounded up. Being a college student that's kinda hard to come by in a hurry. One more question. Would it be alright just doing the front two for now, or should I go ahead and do all four? Like I said money's hard to come by that's why I'm asking. Thanks again.

Flinno

Nevermind that question... I didn't read your last thread. That answers it.
