My son got a 04 4x4 lariat and noticed at 1100+ miles that the front rotors are scored. Took it to the dealer he showed me a STX with the same problem. Told me there was a SSM but that evidently it has been closed out. Anyhow said that the 04's have a problem with the front rotors scoring since ford went to hard pads and soft rotors. Is this a big problem for all or is this a couple of trucks?
Score the rotors bad enough and you will not have any brakes when ya need them. They told me it is not a safety issue (at this time maybe!) but it can be.
If you haven't checked the rotors do so, If you have had them checked out what did they do? I was told right now nothing can be done, but there sure is a lot of brake dust all over the wheels, the one on the rack was almost brake rotor black, ours is not as bad, but since its a black truck, the kid keeps it washed!
Might have to go aftermarket if they dont do anything on this, but that is pure BS at this time for a new truck.
Let me/us know what if anything you know on this situation please.
Yeah, I have a 2004 F-150 Lariat supercrew. I have over 40,000 miles on it since last Jan. I am on second set of brake pads on it. They just don't last.
6,000 Miles, rotors have been machined twice, they are now replacing them because they caused a wheel shimmy bad when braking. They are also replacing all four tires because they can not Road Force balance them. They are telling me that is the cause of the vibation, that is a whole other issue!!!
was thinking about going with either bendix or baer thos are some really good brands out right now....also i am going to consider the cross drilled rotors....
We've had about 3 or 4 F150s with rotor problems. So far we've only had one come back and we had to replace the rotors on that one. The great majority of '04 F150s we've sold have not had problems, but there are a few that have.
