Just recently did a brake job on my 94 F150. I had to ditch the factory rotors since they were thin. I bought some new rotors and pads from Autozone........ Now after about 10K the truck shakes like crazy when stopping.
Will a good machining of the rotor cure this or will it do it again? Are these Autozone rotors cheap and prone to warping? I haven't changed my driving habits, just the brake rotors. I never warped the factory rotors in the almost 10 years that I've owned the truck.
So, can anyone recommend some good rotors and pads?
Raybestos makes decent rotors. Their pads are good, but not the best. They tend to make noise when you get them hot enough. They squeal like mad in the desert heat. Bendix makes great pads, and so does Spectra one.
Autozone sells absolute junk. You're on the right track with getting rid of their crap. I wouldn't put autozone brake parts on a lawn tractor.
AZ rotors are cheap and will re-warp even after you machine them. You can check your local brake specialty shops for better rotors if you're in a hurry.
Even new rotors are recomended to be checked and even turned to run true. If the AZ's were chinese, well you be the judge. Like you you said, you never warped the factory originals, so... Ps: did you thoroughly de grease the new ones after installing? Greasy rotors will warp since they build heat. I like napa, they handle alot of OEM stuff, don't know about their rotors.
I had the same problem. I replaced the stock with cross drilled rotors and severe duty pads. Jeff's Bronco Graveyard has them. They are a little pricey but well worth it. $95 per rotor and $38 for pads. I'm glad I spent the exta money.

I degreased the machined portion, not the entire rotor. Should I have degreased in between the cooling fins?
That's not necessary. Just contact surfaces need to be clean. Pads and where the pads contact the rotor. Another thing to consider is how you torqued the lug nuts. Alot of people on this forum seem to think that over torqueing causes warping. I tighten mine with hand tools only, no air impact wrenches.
