I just picked this one up on a bad debt...I have a autopage aftermarket alarm and the Ford factory alarm and keypad..problem is I have no remote for the factory system, and a copy ,not an original key....how do I get the remote and the factory key?
Next problem, this 2 door has a cheesy aftermaket exhaust (with what looks like the old "cherry bomb " style muffler...and a maf sensor that when plugged in causes it to stall upon acceleration...when I unplug it,the truck runs,a little roughly...I need help! Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
You will have to get your remote and keys from Ford. They sell them in pairs and they are not very cheap. You can find your remote key entry number on the cm which is on the top of the left rear fender well. Remove the interior upholstery panel enough to read the number.
Sounds like you need a tune up and a muffler shop for the rest of the stuff.
Thanks,pony....is there any way to disable the factory alarm system? I am VERY SHORT on $$$ right now(as are many),and I am looking after my brother and sister in laws kids and their dogs..I thought that the exhaust system may be affecting operation of maf...since there is very little backpressure in system, just the cats...and thought(maybe incorrectly) that the maf could not compensate for it.......
You can get a remote on E-Bay. I got two for my '03. The procedure for programming your car to the remotes is in your owners manual. If you don't have one, you can download one here; http://www.genuineflmservice.com/default.asp?page=E4
You can also get original Ford Keys on E-Bay. I got two from a guy in Charlotte NC., had them cut at a local walmart, and they work great. The catch with the keys is that if your key has a chip (I'm not sure about the '97) you'll need two working keys in order to program any more keys. If the key is chipped and you only have one key, you'll need to get it done at the dealer or a locksmith with the correct equipment (and it'll be expensive).
