okay here it goes. this past weekend i took my truck out muddin and put her through a beating. she drove fine all day long and no problems on the way home. my truck sat from saturday till tuesday afternoon befor i started it. she started up just fine but when i put it in gear nothing happened . i checked all the shift linkage and everything was moving as it should be from the shift lever on the steering column to the tranny. no binding or anything. i checked the fluid and it seemed fine (in the limits). i had to get to work so i didnt have time to check into it any further. i dont know how to fix or even want to tear into an automatic tranny and deffinetly dont have the money to replace it so any help is appreciated.....

how long did U leave it in gear? would it go into reverse... alot of the time when a C-6 goes bad it will delay before it finally falls into its forward gears... it is most likely the front pump... a C-6 tranny is not that complicated at all really... it can be easily rebuilt... a front pump is around 50 bucks and a rebuild kit is around 50... it is worth your while... there is a guy that sells a video on how to rebuild the C-6 it will walk you right through it.. U can find the video on ebay usually..just look under how to overhaul the ford C-6.. I had to do the same thing not to long ago.. and that was what was wrong with mine...

Sounds like either a front pump or maybe the sprag broke and when you parked it, it released the sprag and now it won't reingage.
Oh, yeah, you are checking the fluid while it is running in park, right?
Also, when you get more time, let it warm up and see if it does anything. Just some ideas,
Jimmy
i checked it with it iin park and in all the gears too lol. it seems fine i have more time to morow befor work to look at it more in depth. just seems weird that its not geven going into gear.

went out to take a look at her today and here is what happened. i started the truck and let it get up to running temperature. i checked the fluid and it was a little low. befor i added more fluid i jumped in the cab to see if it would shift . and to my suprise it did. io hope it can stilll shift after it cools down and i start it again because it wouldnt do nothing last night when it was cold. i added about a quart of tranny fluid to it, checked it again and it is now right where it is sopposed to be between the arrows. i drove it around and everything seemd fine. for now anyways. is there something that could be bad on the tranny to cause it not to shift when not up to opperating temp????? it also stalls when i put a load on it. it was doing that on saturday when i had it out on the trail, stalling when i got on it hard in a deep mud hole.????? any thoughts on this??? could it be my torque converter??????

Cold start failures (please forgive me detailed description), like the one you described, fail because of old seals that no longer do their job - untill they heat up and expand enough to work correctly. One nice thing about this site is that many of us have stock, orginal trucks...usually a common symptom has a common fix...your tranny is most likely due for a rebuild soon. A quick fix additive may buy you some time, but eventually it will do the same thing my C4 did, never go into gear - except reverse. Not the post you wanted to read. But I wish I did mine myself ($$)...doesn't seem that difficult.
I had the same problem once after a ch*vy pulled me out of a three foot deep mud hole. It was sucked in the mud so hard we bent my frame rails yanking on it. He would take a twenty foot run at full throttle and yank on it. It took about a half hour of tugging. Got it home and pulled the tranny pan off. I have no idea how all of the mud got inside of my tranny. In my case it was time for a rebuild.
Do you have an aftermarket tach? Is the wiring somehow getting into the throttle assembly( under hood or under dash) ? Is there any bare wiring near the coil that could be shorting out when the fan blows real hard?
ill have to try some of that additive in there. who knows maybe it will help. so i guess form what yall are sayin is that my 4 speed manual swap is drawing near lol. and i should start lookin for all the componets to make the conversion....i drove the truck to work today and had no problems. even after sitting for the 13 hours i was working. fired her up and she shifted fine. guess i need to keep a closer eye on my fluid level now. i will prolly drop the pan and see if i can find anything. i think its due for a fluid change anyhow. thanks for the replies keep em comeing.
