Of course running the vehicle without an alternator working will drain the battery, but I mean if there's a battery that's working the vehicle should be able to start. And apparently, drive to my parents' house.
well frdrngrlvr, what you're forgetting is that a good battery will regain charge if it sits for a while. The truck would at least turn over after a little while. The fact that it only clicks after time means that the battery is bad, or one of the other things that we mentioned. The only other thing that could cause this is a bad short, but this would not affect the initial startup after the battery was charged. Seeing as how demonfang says taht he has a new battery, I ruled out the alternator's lack of charging because after he let it sit for a while, the battery should be able to turn the truck over.
sorry guys, for some reason i was thinking the alternator keeps the battery charging all of the time and with-out it the battery would go dead right away. what was there problem again? jk.
no problem frdrngrlvr. I have made many mistakes on these forums. I once told a guy to reverse load his truck on a trailer to help him with the tounge weight of the tow vehicle. (This is a really dangerous idea).
