It depends on the college. Most colleges offer free wireless, some you have to pay for. Find that out first. Then you should be able to just accesss the internet like normal, provided you have a wireless network card, which you do. Like I said, it all depends on the college.
As far as I know, you should be able to just double-click on the internet explorer icon and log onto the net, IF everything is 'set-up' with your wireless card, and there is a hotspot. (Drivers loaded, etc.)
I've carried my laptop all over. From MD to Florida and have been able to get onto the net even from hotel rooms.
Only limitation would be the strength of the wireless set-up.
If not, I'm sure that there will be ethernet connections that you can plug the CAT-5 cable into.
You should be able to verify if your laptop is recieving a wireless signal, and you may be able to "see" more than one network. If it is picking up a signal the only thing that could mess you up is the security of that particular network. For instance one of my friends can pick up his neighbors wireless, and get right on the internet. But at work you need a password.
well if you are talking about A&M... then yes it is free. If you live off campus and just bring your computer to campus and use the internet you need to download the VPN deal so that it will let you into the network. It is free, you just need to download it from your house or apt or whatever. If you dont have internet there, i think you may be able to get the program on cd from the student computing center or something...
oh yeah, once you get the VPN you just log in using your netid and you are good to go to use the internet.
BUT.. if you arnt talking about A&M's campus then i dunno.
